Tugboat Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Rancho Cordova

Today was my first time here and the fish & chips were not only perfect, I especially appreciated how friendly and prompt the service was (I ordered to-go and the total wait time was only 15-20 minutes).

The atmosphere of the restaurant has such a nice, airy, refreshing vibe; as soon as I stepped into the restaurant, I legitimately felt like I was in a more coastal area. Even though I ordered to-go, I’m sure I would’ve loved eating there too. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating.

I got the 3-piece fish which came with perfectly cooked onion rings and fries, and I also ordered the oysters and mushrooms. I enjoyed the fish and mushrooms the most. That fish in particular was cooked to absolute PERFECTION. I’ve never really enjoyed fish & chips much because other restaurants tend to serve really dry fish and soggy chips — but here, the fish was perfectly crisp yet moist and the chips were simply delicious. 2 pieces fish dinner 12$, side of oysters (4 pieces) 7$, side of slaw 3$, tip 2$, 25$ total. Fish was good 👍, everything else was sad 😞. Chips/fries - cold, stale, saltless. Oysters were good, but hardly anything filling. Slaw - brown tint and very limp. 5:30 pm, Friday, april 12, 2024. Very nice girl rang me up - good experience. I wish the meal experience matched! Was my very first time here - perhaps there might be a better time of day to receive fresh fries and slaw. 🤷‍♂️ oh yeah, it was a to-go order and upon arriving home, no vinegar or lemons were included in the order - maybe these are items that need to be requested, or are self serve that i missed. Meal + experience = not worth the price tag, for me.

Lol, I can’t believe how horrible the fries were based on all the other reviews here. Maybe my business is just not wanted. Oh well.

Heads-up, not a place for...

It is truly very difficult rating any restaurants now days due our current world crisis. Where a might have been a bit more critical a year ago I find myself being more understanding today. There were a few people in front of me so a 20 minute wait for food wasn't any problem. When they walked my order out which included 3 full dinners to go he noted they were out of malt vinegar for the fish and chips. A bummer but not the end of the world. Only thing i would add on that is that there is a Safeway right next to the restaurant. This is obviously a very hard working family restaurant so saying anything negative gives me no pleasure. That being said, I was suprised the fish wasn't very hot right after we received it. We took it back home and warned it so it wasn't enough for me to say I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
