This is a review of mine and my friend’s horrifying experience at Tappi’s Cafe located in San Diego, CA. Please note that we are two African American women in our early 20’s. The both of us found 2 thick black pieces of hair in our food. Which we politely notified our waitress about and requested our meals be comped our waitress then responded “of course I’m very sorry about that ladies have a great day” she then took the unsanitary meals away. Being that she bid us farewell we gathered our items and left a tip for her troubles and proceeded to exit the establishment. Upon getting into our car a large angry man “whom we had no previous interaction with” chased behinds us screaming we did not pay for our bill. Then proceeds to argue with us claiming the waitress never told us that our meal was comped. Because we had no problem paying for the food we went back inside to do so and get clarification about why our waitress told us it was comped. He began to rant, scream, and belittle us about why it made no sense that our entire bill would be comped at that point we requested to speak to our waitress and he dismissed us and continue to request payment. We paid for the meals that weren’t affected and again asked to speak to our waitress. The waitress came out and confirmed that she said our entire order was comped and we were good to go. The angry man then responded, manipulating her words saying that she only meant the unsatisfactory meals were to be comped. We continued to go back and forth with him about the way he followed us out of the establishment, embarrassing and intimidating us. There was never an issue with paying for the food but we were told our meals were comped so there was no need for him to scream at us instead of consulting his waitress about why she told us the meal was comped before getting his approval. After getting us to a justifiable point of confusion and irritation with his actions, he continuously told us to calm down and watch our language and explained that it made no sense for them to comp our entire meal. To end the interaction, he said that he’d refund us our money but we were no longer welcomed in the establishment which was completely fine. After being treated like that we would never step foot in an establishment that treats its customers like that, especially customers of color during these sensitive times. Overall the interaction with this rude, angry, perturbed man screamed racism and we highly recommend that you save your money and dine elsewhere, especially...
Read moreThe restaurant is very intimate but still has that diner feel to it. I brought my daughter here for a breakfast date and they were very accompdating when she asked to switch seats so she could sit next to me.
I ordered a caramel machiatto, bacon, eggs, and a Nutella waffle. My daughter had an M&M pancake and bacon. I got a to go order for my husband and he got the Kobe and a French toast with Nutella.
The presentation was beautiful. You could tell they slowed down to make beautiful lines of nutella on the waffle. The waffle was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside; just how it should be! The bacon was crunchy and fresh and the eggs were soft and fluffy. My caramel machiatto was one of the best I've ever had. There was caramel milk foam on top that was to die for.
My daughter had 1 pancake and I'm glad the waitress told me they were huge because she wanted two. She ate half of it because the pancake was the size of the plate so she's taking the rest home. This would be a good option to split if you had kids who wanted the same flavor.
There is ample parking since there are many different businesses located near it. Which is nice since parking is something that is always lacking in San Diego
I would recommend...
Read moreAs soon as we walked in we were greeted by the friendly staff and seated right away. A great start to an even better meal! My fiancèe and I ordered the Honeymoon latte (vanilla latte sweetened with honey) and a Dirty Chai to start, both were super delicious, beautiful and handcrafted to perfection. For our meals my fiancèe ordered the Beefee Benedict which is served with Kufta (think Mediterranean "meatloaf" with robust herbs and spices) and a house blend cheese on top of English muffins and a made from scratch Hollandaise sauce. And I had ordered the Shakshuka "Special" which is on the regular menu, that's just how they named this dish and that comes with grilled onions and peppers, Kufta, two sunny side eggs in a rich and perfectly acidic tomato puree and houseblend cheese with a house made Bread dome on top of the whole dish. Delicious is an understatement, the food, the drinks the atmosphere, I mean everything fit so prefect. They have a little taste of different cultures and offer healthy alternatives and everything is made in house and I could not say anything bad about this place. 10 out of 10 recommend and we will definitely be coming back to try other...
