I ended up here almost as a fluke. I was heading out to another place to eat after working all day, while also having to do a Zoom board meeting. The place I intended to go was closed on Mondays, unbeknownst to me. After a quick search, this seemed up my alley. Being Latina, I want to have more options of Latin dishes but in my area, the best places are all in the hood. It's like the Wild West down there & I typically avoid going into the heart of Philly anywhere anymore. This place was only 5 mns away.
I get there and walked past the door at 1st. Ended up trying to open an exterior door to Apts on the left... so make sure to use the ramp & the doors are on the right. 😅 The 1st thing I noticed was the atmosphere, the style.... it was so inviting & eye appealing. There was no one in the front, so I walked straight to the rear bar for a menu & sat. They had some great Karol G music playing on a large TV mounted on the side.
I ordered the Bistec con Mofongo y una Piña Colada. So for English readers, beef strips with side of a mold of plantain mixed with roast pork, as shown in my pics. The 1st thing to arrive was a basket of tortillas & salsa, which is a nice touch while waiting for food. The Colada was AMAZING! It was such a satisfying & ridiculously delicious drink. Probably the best I've had yet, although I don't think there's much alcohol in them, if at all. 🤷🏻♀️ I should've asked. The food was quite good, particularly the beef strips. Well seasoned & cooked, paired with red & green bell peppers. Chef's kiss 🤌🏻
The servers were extremely pleasant, particularly the one that took my order & answered questions. Such a great demeanor about her.... though I think she was taken back at 1st when I spoke Spanish. Lol I'm so white. 😅🤣
I highly recommend trying this place out. There seems to be a decent amount of...
Read moreThis review hopefully is for educational purposes for the owner. Unfortunately for people that have never been to DR or PR and truly tried the food this is FAR from the real deal. Being Puerto Rican myself and having been from a small kiosk to a 5-star restaurant I can say they still have a long way to go. Let's start by saying that our waitress was not attentive at all. I don't wish to say her name (this is not to embarrass her). If you are an establishment that only has canned products your servers should offer water (free of charge). Puertorrican and Dominican are by nature EXCELLENT hosts (please do better). As well if you are making homemade food( comida criolla) where is the plantain soup? Fritters like bacalaitos(cod fritters) and alcapurrias (stuffed fritters)? There are so many things you can do to make this better. There is potential to do great. My mofongo was very overcooked, the salad you can tell is from a bag and the only fresh were the tomatoes. If you are going to serve a complimentary snack PLEASE don't serve TOSTITOS AND SALSA. That is NOT a snack you want to serve in a restaurant. If chips are a thing, you can do plantain chips and chimi salsa. Prices are extremely high and only saw my actual server 3 times, 1 was for the drinks, and the other for the check. We asked her for 1 extra dish so it could be an appetizer (we saw they had an authentic Dominican plate) they had no appetizers and she replied that they had none left. To our surprise, the next table was getting what we wanted. You can imagine the big disappointment. And let's not even talk about the bathroom not having a proper way to close it. I can't say I will never go back. Hopefully, several years from now if I see they have gotten better I will change my review but for...
Read moreI was dining with my sister here yesterday after ministering at a church service. We do not live in the area. We just wanted to eat something good for dinner before we went home which was an hour away. The waitress we had was very rude to us. When we were ready to order she took a long time to come to our table. We had to talk to another waitress to get her. She misunderstood my order and when I told her I wanted the shrimp with mofongo. she spoke to me rudely saying i have to speak to the manager because you might have to still pay for it. I observed her talking to the manager about me and it was in a very rude demeanor. The manager was nice on switching the dish to the one I wanted but my mofongo was cold and not tasty. I didn’t feel to complain because the waitress made a big deal about my order. So I didn’t say anything about it but I will not come here again. I tipped the waitress what she didn’t deserve because I believe in being merciful to others. I expected a better experience but it wasn’t for me and my sister. Our waitress was an older woman skinny with glasses. She was very unprofessional. I wouldn’t...
