My wife and I moved to Redding about a year ago. While busy unpacking we were famished - and decided to have Mexican. We opted for Puerto Vallarta - it was close. Take out was great.

Fast forward to a year later. We decided to go out for dinner - decisions, decisions… We remembered the good take out from Puerto Vallarta and decided to go there.

What a great choice! We were greeted warmly and quickly seated in a nice booth. It was early (around 6PM) and the restaurant was 1/2 full. People seated seemed happy and enjoying their meal. After we were seated, a server brought over some corn chips and, not only delicious, spiced salsa - but a small bowl of warm refried beans topped with crumbled Cojita cheese. Wow, we haven’t even ordered and we already enjoying ourselves. Our waitress come over and asked if we wanted cocktails. Indeed we did - my wife a margarita (getting into the spirit), me a cold Sierra Nevada Ale. The drinks arrived quickly and our waitress (Roxanna - Im sure I’ve misspelled her name) asked about ordering. We had just started looking at the extensive menu and told her we needed a bit more time. After debating/discussing/drooling, we settled on our dinners (which wasn’t easy - we pretty much wanted everything..) My wife the Taquitos - 4 tortillas stuffed with chicken and fried crisp with tomatoes, cotija cheese, sour cream & guacamole and refried beans. I opted for the Pork Carnitas - roasted pork with rice, beans, salsa, sour cream, tortillas & guacamole. Roxanna asked if I want flour or corn tortillas. I told her I wasn’t sure - I like them both. She laughed and said - “then I’ll bring you a few of each” Sweet. I also ordered a side of Chile Relleno - I find this simple dish a good way to judge a restaurant.

The food arrived soon enough and was almost overwhelming! The Taquiltos were perfectly crisp cooked and loaded with shredded chicken. The fresh vegetables on the side were a perfect compliment! My Pork Carnitas (Carnitas de Puerco as they say ;-) were great. The pork nicely seasoned and browned/crisp on the edges - just how they should be cooked and some nicely fried onions in the mix. As I dug into the tortillas (haveing both flour AND corn), I put some quacamole and sour cream on the bottom and pilled the pork on top. What a taste - they were great! I also added some of the rich salsa on the last few - heaven!!!

BTW, the Chile Relleno was spot on. The Pasilla chile nicely fried with a good amount of melted cheese inside sitting on a bed of delicious sauce with a side of shredded lettuce and chopped tomato. Nice touch!

Needless to say we had a great meal and great time. Our waitress (Roxanna) was very friendly, cheerful and helpful. As the night wore on, the restaurant was filling up. No surprise. Fine food, fine people, fine prices.

We both decided our search for a mexican restaurant was over. Puerto Vallarta will be our go to - for both take out and dine in.

Highly...

A truly unique location, nestled along Eureka Way just before you leave Redding. From outside it doesn't draw very much attention aside from the Adobe style building and large side with its name. Not a whole lot to go on. However, once you enter you are warmly greeted by kind staff along with aromatics of traditional Mexican cuisine. There aren't a lot of places that I would feel comfortable trying traditional Mexican foods, as they tend to be "Tex-Mex" or Commercialized and either flavorless or from a can. The food here however, is prepared lovingly and with ample flavor. Whether it came from a can or not my extremely picky palate couldn't tell. I had a platter of tacos one of each type of meat as I often order so that I can sample multiple tastes. Each one was exquisite. The salsa was fantastic and tasted fresh which always means a lot to me. Now on to the ratings. The food was fantastic. The service was good, I did have one complaint and it is nitpicky, as I was in the middle of my order because I had ordered a quesadilla appetizer and I wanted to sample the tacos, the waitress did not wait she actually took the menu from my hand when it was not offered. Luckily my partner who was with me at the time also likes to order multiple flavors and allowed me to sample from thier plate. The rest of the staff we're incredibly warm and welcoming and very attentive. The atmosphere was wonderful, a lot of South of the border tones and themes, the restaurant isn't huge but what they did with it truly is. The restaurant was clean and orderly. The quality of the food was above the price of the food. Thank you for the wonderful experience and we will definitely...

I've always found that if the service is amazing it helps the food to taste better. To find a place with outstanding service and delicious food is unheard of. But that's exactly what you get at Santiago's family Puerto Vallarta! You're greeted right through the door with a smile while being led into a very authentic Mexican environment. From homemade chips bean dip and salsa, to the tequila poppers, this place has it all. We had the vegetarian burrito and House special Arroz con Pollo. I usually don't venture outside of my comfort zone and try things I have never had before so I highly recommend the Arroz con Pollo. Deliciously smothered in house sauce the mushrooms peppers chicken rice and cheese was amazing! Mamas in a wheelchair which was made ez because they have parking right outside the front door. Thank you Puerto Vallarta for being so family oriented while sticking to true Mexican traditional...

I order 2 cheese enchiladas and a tamale. The sause that they had was very dreadful. I wasn't very satisfied with the food at all. I had bad cheese enchiladas from other restaurants. This might be the worst enchilada I ever had. If you look at the picture of the tamale sauce it does not look appetizing at all. Service were really friendly though.
