I have been going to the Bread Basket since I was very young and I am now 48. In my 30+ years as a patron I have never had an experience as bad as the one I had today. Even worse than the effort to make a sandwich that has been consistent my entire life, was the customer service provided by Vic.

When I hear Vic's voice I know that I am about to get a D- customer service experience, but I typically overlook it because the food is pretty consistent. But today was an exception.

I ordered what I normally order: 17 1/2 grilled onion roll fatty corned beef. I get there pick it up get home the onion roll is not grilled. No problem, go back, tell Vic the mistake. He gives it back to the kitchen asks them to grill it. here is where the problem starts. instead of making any effort to make the sandwich correctly they throw it on the grill and give it back to me. I should note that in the 30+ years i have been ordering this sandwich when the onion roll is grilled it's always flipped inside out. this would have taken a few minutes to do correctly. instead what i got back was a sandwich covered in some type of debris from the grill. I returned a second time to engage in one of the worst customer service interactions ever with Vic. When I explain to him that I was back because they didnt make the sandwich correctly only threw it on the grill he said "what do you expect them to do?" (with a very nasty tone)

I explained i wanted them to give me the sandwich the same way I always getting. I think I deserve that much when I pay $23 for a sandwich. He tries to argue with me as if asking them to remake my sandwich correctly is something unreasonable. he then passes it back to the kitchen and explains that it needs to be remade, and the cook or whoever he is asks why he has to remake it. Nevermind that this sandwich was made thirty minutes ago and this is their error. Vic never explained that to him

At this point I'm just like give me a refund. He then asks me for my receipt. Never in 30 years have ever had to bring a sandwich back or get a refund so I have no idea where the receipt is. so the sandwich has to be remade because he cant give me a refund because I dont have receipt even though I've been back twice in thirty minutes and I know it's in their pos system.

when i get home they still didnt remake my sandwich. they just turned the the original bun inside out, which was supposed to be done originally. ultimately I paid an exorbinant $23 to eat a 30 minute old sandwich.

If you call or go in here and Vic is working,...

Called to place an order for six egg rolls and asked the young lady taking the order what was in the eggs rolls… she stated that it was only cheese in the eggs rolls. Got the egg rolls home and there was Russian dressing in them. I called them back and she stated that she was unaware that there was dressing in them and would write my name in a book and remake them for me without the Russian dressing… I call back to today to confirm if my name was in the book to place a new order, and yep you guessed it, my name is not in the book per the manager. The kicker is that I bought the egg rolls last week and the manager tells me that the only way to receive a new order is to bring back the old egg rolls!! I reminder her that I bought the egg rolls a week ago, and she proceeded to be rude by calling me honey and saying that it doesn’t matter how long ago it was, I need to bring them back. (Why would I keep old food for that long, not knowing when I would come back)? She also went on to say, it’s on the bottom of everyone’s receipt that the food has to be brought back… I can understand that as long as I plan to come back the same day… but a week later? Who keeps old food for that long? The young lady never told me that I have to bring the egg rolls back. This is bad business on their part and unprofessional to say the least. The manager is very rude and argumentative and didn’t want to hear anything I had to say. I will not be going back to this location, and I recommend you all steer clear from this location as well!

Nicole Taylor, a very dissatisfied customer!! P.S I have also put this review on all social media platforms, and other sites for restaurant reviews… you all will not get...

I went to bread basket about 10 years ago, and it was great. It was the first alternative to Lou's deli that I would be happy about. So we went there today and we ordered two sandwiches and we tried their corned beef egg rolls for some reason. I ordered the bread basket sandwiches which is like a dinty Moore but with Swiss cheese. I ordered the original size sandwiches and I was a little disappointed. The last time I went here the sandwich was stacked so high I could barely bite it, and the meat was very tender and thinly sliced. There was a lot of flavor from the Russian dressing and the tomatoes. This time I could barely taste the sauce the meat was a little salty and a little bit more tough and the bread was tasted old and stale. It was falling apart.

The corned beef egg rolls were actually good crunchy on the outside the meat was tender and not too salty. It's amazing you go there mainly for corned beef sandwiches but then the egg rolls are better.

Anyway someone actually told me that Bread Basket went downhill over the last few years but I didn't believe it so I wanted to verify for myself and guess what they were correct. I wouldn't count them out as they have I believe a locations around Detroit area so maybe they might take customer service and get back on track or maybe the next time I visit Detroit they'll be gone like many other businesses who don't care about customers or their reputation. I usually find that restaurants that are just greedy and trying to make a buck...

Normally the sandwiches are on point. I’ve been coming here for a few years and one employee has been a staple and consistently professional, it’s Vic. With sandwiches being almost $20 for a 9 oz corn beef, please make it correctly! No one has the time to waste to go to work just to have your lunch messed up. This pic CLEARLY shows that the 9 oz paid for, is not what was received. So if JUSTIN is on the board, either go somewhere else or definitely DOUBKE CHECK your order before leaving. My hubby had to bring half the sandwich back AND the receipt in order to have it remade. I may have to go back to Al’s on Woodward because this is the SECOND time the food was wrong. Then to be told, “he weighed all the sandwiches.” Either he can’t read measurements or he didn’t weigh out 9 ozs of meat. Pick one but DO BETTER especially when folks are paying almost $20 for a sandwich AND we tip.

They must have changed owners because this went from being my favorite Bread Basket to never going again. I always get the same 17 1/2 9z on onion roll. Got home and it looked like a 6z. Called and they said to bring it back with the receipt. I get there and the "cook" said it was a 9z so I showed them the picture of what I always get and how it looks. He again said well this is a 9z so I asked him will if what they gave me was a 9z then what does a 6z look like? He said "I don't know and give her her money back if she don't like it" with a nasty attitude so I most definitely took my money back because I don't argue with people about my food .The "cook" attitude was just horrible and defensive. The 3 other staff just stood there. At $15+ per sandwiche, I want my money's worth. I won't be back. Now you tell me if both of these sandwiches look like 9z.
