We needed to be out of the house for a bit and wanted to try someplace new for dinner. Xalisco caught my attention because it's 4.8 stars but there was this really detailed 1 star review from a week ago which had some (I thought) dumb complaints. So we had to check it out.
So glad we did. The food was very good. The shredded beef in my enchilada was outstanding. The chicken burrito was just, ya know, a chicken burrito but the enchilada sauce is nice; not too sweet like some places do it. Another point in their favor was the amount of cheese - I am so used to places either skimping on the cheese or overpowering the enchilada with the cheese that it was nice to go "That's EXACTLY the amount of cheese to use"
She had the Trio de Empanadas - the shrimp was her favorite, she offered me a bite but it was a begrudging offer so I passed. The steak filling was really good although the dough on that one had something going on that was just 'different'. We couldn't decide if it was a flavor or texture thing. Super wierd because it wasn't bad, it was just, I don't know.... different. I really quite liked the mushroom one. Certainly a dish we'll revisit next time mainly because I want to give the steak one another go. I'm normally pretty good with pastries figuring out it was over/under worked or the flour was too fine/coarse for the recipe or whatever but this one stumped me.
One of the other issues in the 1 star review was that they didn't bring chips/salsa to the table. Which seems to me to be a 'true but dumb' comment. They bring out some nice warm tortillas and salsa, sooo.... No complaints on that, I think I prefer it
The desserts were fine. Nice creamy sauce on the flan. The lava cake was a little dry for my taste and since they were very busy it sat on the counter for a few minutes before coming out so the filling cooled but that didn't stop me from eating more of it than I really had room for
Our server (Sandra, according to the ticket) was super nice and patient even though they were pretty busy and the servers all seemed to be in motion all the time
All in all we judge it to be a good value and well worth another visit. I have my eye on the Mole Pipian...
Read moreI had a terrible experience at xalisco. I went there soon after they opened and me and my fiance have been going to carnaval since they opened and were told it was very similar. It overall was a horrible 3 hour experience. It took them 40 minutes to even come over to our table and take our order. We ordered drinks and appetizers and our entree. The entrees came out first after an hour and a half and they weren't cold but were by no means hot. Then our appetizers came out after we tried out entrees and did not like them whatsoever. Appetizers were much worse. Then, we got our drinks. I asked them for the check and took them 45 more minutes to get my check AFTER I walked over to them multiple times during our time there (checking on why food was taking so long and why getting my check took so long.) Paid our bill even though I was very adamant to my fiance we should leave because I did not want to pay for such a horrible experience, but her being a kind person convinced me otherwise. Wasted 3 hours of our day and went home and made food because we hardly ate anything. They didn't seem to care about our complaints of the food either when brought up to the waitress.
Now you may think "oh they must've been slammed because they were new and had good reviews." Granted, yes they were busy, but throughout this experience we had watched the wait staff standing around the register socializing (I don't have an issue with this if you're actually doing your job) while we watched as food sat on the counter (no form of heating to keep the food warm either) and the staff visibly look at said food and go back to socializing. By far the worst experience ive ever had dining and I've been to Greg's grill in bend, which is now a close...
Read moreAt first impression its definitely a little more modern and upscale restaurant with outdoor seating. Not your traditional colorful decor that you would find at a common Mexican restaurant. I came in around noon. Not a lot of people, only three tables were taken up. I was greeted promptly and self sat. The bartender/waiter got my order which consisted of a Chile Relleno with a side of rice and refried pinto beans. My drink of choice was a coke. The host promptly brought over three small corn tortillas with a dish of salsa. Which I very much enjoyed. Glad to see that there are still places that make homemade tortillas. They were on the small side to my liking.
Now the food was delicious. I had inquired on what type of pepper they used for the Chile Relleno and to my surprise they were Poblano Peppers. Which I very much prefer. Many restaurants use anaheim due to the lower cost. Presentation was well done as you can see from the photo provided. One thing that definitely sets them apart from other Mexican restaurants. The food is not all cluttered on one plate. The rice was delicious and cooked to perfection. The refried beans were not lacking taste one bit. I whole heartily enjoyed my lunch. I do have to say it was the best Chile Relleno I have had in Central Oregon. Only second to my mother's. That's saying a lot.
The staff was very on top of it as the lunch rush came in. The bartender checked on me multiple times and did not let my drink fall empty at all.
I will definitely stop by again and enjoy the fish dish that was being made as the aroma made it's way over to me and maybe a...
