Bawarchi was by far the best Indian Restaurant when it opened â actually the best restaurant in Reno! As an indicator, I ate there nine times during its opening month. The food was spectacular, the service was exceptional and the atmosphere and cheery staff made it a pleasure to visit often. I told everyone I knew, this was the place to go; I held parties here for friends and colleagues and ensured I sent as much business to this wonderful establishment as I could.
Now as the years have passed, Bawarchi service has deteriorated significantly, landing this a go to place, maybe only once every couple of months. The past four visits have made me leave the restaurant with a bitter taste in my mouth, due to the appalling service, even to a regular. The food always makes me come back but tonight they receive the award for probably the worst of the worst restaurants in Reno.
We arrived at our table with a warm carafe of water that had been sitting there for what must have been hours, waiting for us. The ordering time was the usual rubbish and eventually when she took our orders for food and drink at the same time, it would seem apparent she didnât understand the concept of appetizer and main meal. My fiancĂ©âs appetizer came out 15 minutes later, which to be honest is the fastest its been in months. Mine never arrived. After another ten minutes my appetizer and both main dishes came to the table. I asked the server why he would do that, to the response âbecause they were readyâ. Iâd finished my beer by this stage and commenced to eat my appetizer. Both lady waitresses standing at reception area, not coming to offer me another drink.
I finished my appetizer which for some unbeknown reason to me was made differently from what Iâve eaten for a couple of years or more. Still no offer of a new drink, so I moved my empty glass to the front of my table so they could see it. I started my now lukewarm main dish. Iâd asked for it to be extremely hot and spicy. My eight year old daughter who finds ketchup spicy could have eaten that garbage. I couldnât even finish it AND it had a bone in, when advertised as boneless.
Iâm at this stage still waiting for my offer of another drink. My fiancĂ© had also finished, so we waited to be presented the check. And waited⊠and waited⊠and waited. We had to stand up to ask for the check and my second drink. Thatâs it â unforgivable!
Bawarchi, youâre a disgrace to the food industry and your waiting staff, especially the older of the two (who was far more lazy than the younger lady) shouldnât be employed. Youâve lost a regular and I hope my feedback keeps patrons away from your establishment. Pay attention to your visitors or close down. Youâve appalled me enough to write my first ever full...
Read moreWorst service in entire america. Least bothered about customers, we went to restaurant around 8:30 to get some biryani, when we asked for family pack owner at this place doesnât want us to sale family pack as he wonât get more profit if we purchse it in family packs. He forced us to purchase biryaniâs in single. Moreover he stated one biryani would enough for only one person even if person very light eater. After placing the i asked for exact time thay need to deliver food and i was told it would be harldy 30 minutes, we waited for 40 minutes but there wasnât any response and when we checked with one waiter in restaurant he mentioned it willntaje another 45 Minutesâs. When we started asking about the time which they metioned us earlier he tarted saying i work inside I donât know anything the orders and left inside without any explanation. Finally when started asking multiple times they gave us food after 1 hr 42 minutes of me placing order. Even at that which they gave us was not fully which we ordered and person who gave food to us was asking us to leave stating it had everything. We opened food bag and showed number of items which we ordered were incorrect and also for the biryaniâs which they gave us they didnât provide raitha. They are least bothered about customers and donât even want to Mention about that. When we asked about raitha he was stating we are out of raitha. This is really very irresponsible for customers who are out of station came to vist the place. They just want to fool customers who are out of city and make money out of them thinking customers are fools. Finally when all the food came to us one person waitress we heard her name was (Lakshmi), she thinks customers are beggars and throwed 2 pan on my face ans stating take this as curtosy.
I want to mention one more than ng for the peope who arebtaking to-go orders. We observed quantity which they served for dine-in is very very more and good quality than what they gave us for togo. After eating egg and chicken biryani from this place 2 of my friends were affected with food poison. I think they served very...
Read moreEdit: The owner tried a lot to reach out to me to talk about what went wrong. Initially I was stubborn and thought there is no point. But after his last attempt, I thought I should give them a call. On call owner asked me to come to restaurant so he could explain me in detail. It was Friday evening and I had some time so I decided to go and meet the owner.
So the owner explained how biryani is prepared and how there are layers of rice and veggies in veg dum biryani. The staff member serving that day just took rice from top and didn't get to bottom. That explains why I hardly got any veggies and the Biryani was bland. All the spices that goes into biryani are mostly in the veggies. Now that made sense and this shows how a restaurant can cook the most authentinc food but serving can mess up the dish.
Anyways I was a little hungry and even though restaurant was almost closed, owner himself prepared Mysore masala dosa for me. Let me be honest with you. That was the most authentinc dosa I had tried in US so far. Dosa itself was huge. Filling was good but the highlight of the dish was sambhar. The dish of dosa completely relies on how flavorful the sambhar is. Dosa itself doesn't have a lot of flavors and if eaten without any sambhar or chutney is just bland. So the sambhar has to be perfect and this sambhar was perfect. I am happy to know that there is atleast one restaurant in Reno that cares about authentincity.
Anyone looking for authentinc Indian food should definitely have this place at top of their list.
Original review: Quality of food has gone down the drain. Food is very bland and customer service is the worst. Don't waste your time and money. If you leave a bad review on yelp, owner will harras you and ask you to get refund to take down bad review. It used to be really good when it opened in 2016 but now I would rather eat frozen indian food from Trader Joe's than going to...
