Jazmine Restaurant — Restaurant in Reno

THEY POISONED MY MOM. That is not an exaggeration. My family called in for dinner tonight and when placing our order, very clearly reported that my mother has a deathly shellfish allergy. We know how to communicate about this - specifying absolutely no shrimp, oyster sauce, anything that has touched or been prepared in the same area as any shellfish, anything fried in the same oil as shrimp or other shellfish. Sometimes restaurants will refuse to fulfill an order because they can’t guarantee against cross-contamination, and that is completely fair. This restaurant said it wouldn’t be a problem. When we picked up our order, it said on the ticket “shellfish allergy - no shrimp, no oyster sauce.” That’s usually a good sign that the allergy was communicated.

However, we were a few bites into our food when we found little WHOLE DRIED SHRIMP in at least one of the dishes!!! My mother had already started eating, meaning we had to immediately stop our meal and prepare to administer an epipen and take her to the hospital if she started getting a severe reaction. We were very, very lucky that she only consumed a small amount of contaminated food and was able to avoid a severe reaction. To be clear though, she is sick from this and it is 100% the fault of Jazmine restaurant. A mid-level allergic reaction like this is as bad as food poisoning.

We called the restaurant afterwards to tell them what happened, and the manager did not seem to understand the severity of what had happened. She talked to the kitchen and said there was “shrimp in the XO sauce” and “the kitchen must not have read the note on the ticket” but did not apologize, ask if our mother was ok, or offer to refund any part of our meal. She offered us a credit towards a future meal - but why would any of us ever eat at a restaurant that would make this kind of error?? I’ve held food handlers permits in 2 different states and worked in many restaurants - the first and most important responsibility of a restaurant is to not make people sick. This wasn’t just a small mixup or a fringe ingredient in a minor sauce, there were actual shrimp on our plates. That is a massive, massive error and my mom could have died if we hadn’t caught it so quickly. Worse, none of the restaurant staff...

The sushi here is decent, but where this place really shines is the Chinese food. You ever heard of upscale "gourmet" Chinese food? If you're like most people, that's like saying gourmet Mexican food! Wha? How can that be? Well, yes, here at Jazmine you can experience upscale gourmet Chinese food in an upscale atmosphere offering a full bar and excellent service.

Some of the food items that are absolutely the best you ever had are the pot stickers! Bigger and fatter and tastier than any other! The skin is nice and thin and delicate, not all thick and doughy like most places offer. The dipping sauce is even better with more complex flavors than most Chinese joints.

OMG, and then there's the fried chicken wings! It doesn't occur to most, that Chinese restaurants even make deep fried chicken wings or that they'd be any good, I mean, wings are supposed to be Southern right? Wrong! Chinese make the best dang chicken wings you ever had! This place uses premium chicken wings with more meat and decent size, over the dinky sports bar wings with no meat on em kinda wings! Get these as an appetizer!

Most of the items on the menu may be priced a little above most Chinese places, but that's because Jazmine is using the best ingredients and not cutting corners with junky meat or anything. Try this place out for a new kind of Chinese...

Unbelievable is the first thing that comes to mind.

I visited this restaurant today for lunch. Chose to sit at the sushi bar.

I get settled at my seat, the counter is like totally slick, leaving a residue on my hands and there is a very strong aroma of lemon, turns out they used lemon pledge on the counters where people eat.

So for those who fail to see the problem, let me explain.

First, the aroma was so strong and did not fade, that it became impossible to taste the food.

Second, smelling that intense scent for the time it takes to go all you can eat, caused a nice headache.

Thirst, pledge is not a food safe chemical and should not be used on counters where food is served.

Fourth, pledge can cause skin irritation on some people and respiratory problems or trigger a persons asthma.

After asking the sushi chefs, it’s the owners who decide to do this.

People , this restaurant and it’s owners have no clue how to run a restaurant and they don’t care.

I urge everyone to go somewhere else for sushi and Chinese. There are better options and ones that do not do things to jeopardize...
