Great bakery and decent food in my experience—come with an appetite because the portions are gigantic. The coffee is really good, but I suggest ordering ahead of time to avoid a super long wait (and, okay, it takes 3 minutes to make a shot and five minutes to brew a pot of coffee, so as to why it takes 15-20 minutes for a latte is a bit dumbfounding… I made that mistake once and have ordered ahead since) I have never had an issue with stale bakery items. I will miss the maple walnut carrot cake—it was the best!
The menu is tasty. I had the breakfast sandwich (wanted eggs over medium but got an over easy egg… that’s okay other than that I prefer to eat my eggs, not drink them, but this of course is not good for people who cannot eat raw ingredients, like cancer patients in active treatment which I used to be one) and a croissant (I did not want it… I ordered a donut but they messed up my order). Both were good despite the latter not being what I wanted. I also got a 12 oz iced latte. It was refreshing and the beans are quite good and taste high quality. I enjoy and look forward to my weekend iced lattes. It’s pricey but it’s actually cheaper than a Starbucks flat white and tastes 1000x better.
I am disappointed that they aren’t being careful with orders and gave me the croissant instead of the donut. They weren’t busy when I came in, so I do not know what happened. Bad on me for not checking my order, but I rely on those who prepare takeout orders to get it right. I got a refund because I was not given what I paid for and that is appreciated and is probably the bare minimum response to a wrong order, but the lady I spoke to on the phone was pretty flippant and didn’t even apologize for the mix up. She probably needs a lesson in customer service. As for me, I do not have time to deliver an attitude adjustment and that is also not my job. Besides, I got a refund so I won’t make too much of a funk. I will have to wait another month to get a donut though (sadly).
So, yeah, the service is poor… mediocre at best. This is not out of the ordinary for Reston as I rarely have good service at RTC or Reston Station. I say that Reston has the worst service because the employees are generally snooty and do not appear to care about customer satisfaction. It must be a Loudon County proximity issue (Reston is in Fairfax but right by Ashburn… but Tysons and Merrifield are in Fairfax but closer to DC and Arlington and have MUCH better service—nicer, more caring people with a bit more southern hospitality and as good of food).
Otherwise, Tatte Bakery offers a decent atmosphere—it can get very busy on the weekends, so be aware of this if you want to dine in. There is ample outdoor seating although this is not ideal in the winter.
Tatte Bakery should open a cafe in Fairfax Corner. It would be...
Read moreI have visited several Tatte Cafes in the past. From the one on Dupont Circle to Chinatown, this is by far one of my favorite cafes. I was more than excited to see one open up in Reston, VA! The asthetic and atmosphere of this location are 10/10 just as all the others are. Tattes' signature white and black interior always exudes cozy.
The food was fantastic and resonably prices. I got the 'Squash & Mushroom Sandwich' (picture #3) that was served on housemade ciabatta bread. It was very warm, flavorful, and savory. I enjoyed a lovely cup of earl grey tea with my meal. The tea bags here are by far my favorite of any shop in the area. Even after several hot water refills, the flavor was still strong!
My friend had the 'Roasted Mushroom, Spinach & Potato Bowl' (picture #4), which she said was very creamy and good. It could've been a little warmer, but outside of that, everything was spot on. The sourdough that was served with the bowl was "buttery, crispy, and not burnt." She had an iced matcha latta that was the right balance of matcha. She did say it could've been sweeter, but there is a self-serve station near the barista counter to add sugar or milk if needed.
We also shared a couple of items from the bakery. The monkey bread was sweet and soft while the toasted strawberry tea cake was not too sweet and perfectly mosit. Our favorite had to be the gingerbread pound cake that was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. It is a large slice for the price, making it a great item to share.
As for the staff, they were phenomenal! Sadly, the highest I can award them is a 5 star review, but if I could, they would get a 15/10. All the staff was very friendly. From the cashier to the food runner and the gentleman who collected the trash, everyone was lovely. I had the honor of meeting then the general manager who was behind the counter and refilled my hot water for me. Him, along with the rest of the staff, were kind. I also have to applaud one staff member in particular, Feddy, for his exceptional service. Despite the busy lunch rush, he remained calm and provided assistance where needed. He even noticed me looking for help and acknowledged me immediately despite being busy and helping someone else.
I hope to become a regualr of this establishment and see how it...
Read moreI am sorry to say but this place simply does not know how to make good food or coffee. They can certainly make the food look good in a photo, that is easy. But I don’t think that matters as much as the flavors. I came precisely for the shakshouka, and it pretty much taste like they put a can of tomato paste with no spices and thew an egg in with it. Way to butcher an authentic Arabic dish. It was disgusting and I wasn’t even sure why they had it on the menu if they do not know how to cook it. The baked options are so dry! Like they’ve been out for days or just it was not made properly. The coffee is alright but honestly nothing was worth the money we spent here. This place is way over priced. If you want to come here to just look like you are having a good time, come. If you want to come here to actually have a good time and get good food and coffee, stay away. Also it seems that the staff is generally unhappy. All had frowns on their faces and not very welcoming. I overheard one customer say she was too afraid to approach the cashier to tell her that they got her coffee wrong because the cashier was aggressive. If you can’t make your customer feel welcome enough to at least tell you that you messed up their orders, then you oughta look for a new line of work. As if it’s not bad enough that we spent more money than we needed to for food that was mediocre and stale. I will certainly not be returning here or visiting any of their other locations. I will just have to enjoy my shakshouka at a more authentic place where they know how to make it. The only nice thing about this place is the look and feel. But it’s a waste cause the food and vibes...
