Something’s changed this year. We’ve been long standing customers for over 10 years. In fact, I gave a 5 star rating last year describing the best, largest, most dense soft serve ice cream anywhere. My wife & I have been there several times since it opened this season. The ice cream cones are now served smaller and lighter. Dramatically different from the standard we and other long time customers would know.
Today, I refused the first cone served to me and asked for another to be made to the standard I have come to know over the years. The second cone was even more pathetic than the first. I refused that one as well, and left very disappointed for another ice cream store. I hope this matter is perhaps is a training issue with the server(s). This particular server today was a fine and polite young man. So no negative reflection on him.
We hope that Kell’s has not changed their iconic standard. Also, they address the matter and provide appropriate training to their team members to continue to serve up hearty servings. If the standard has changed, please let people know. The old timers like us will be cast off. The newer customers won’t know the difference. In fairness, we’ll give it one more try.
We went back a couple of weeks later. The ice cream cones were as big and delicious as we remembered them to be. So, this matter was corrected and Kell’s iconic standard restored. Give Kell’s a try when you’re in the mood for a real treat. Thank you...
Read moreI tried to go there with my family tonight, around 9.15 pm. We had been waiting online for between 10-15 minutes and were going to be next when a woman holding a cigarette and no mask came right up to the side door and a female working inside opened the door for her. The employee’s mask was pulled down below her nose so basically completely ineffective and then she spoke to this woman who ducked her unmasked head into the building where the food preparation took place to say something or speak to someone. The employee then adjusted her mask with her gloved hand which she did not appear to then change prior to returning to work. As if that didn’t set off enough warning bells in my head, the people online were masked and were separated by poles where they were meant to have groups stand 6ft apart but then other non masked members of various parties would come talk to or gather next to their friends online. At the window where you ordered and picked up your ice cream, not once did I see the staff wipe down the counter, even though nearly every person before me touched or placed something down on the counter while they rummaged to find their form of payment. My daughter and I were pretty bummed but there was no way we were willing to put ourselves at...
Read moreThe Sunday late afternoon/night staff is definitely not anywhere near as great as the rest of the week. This is the 3rd Sunday in a row I stopped by Kelly’s Kream and within the one minute it took from getting my ice cream at the window and walk directly across the street my ice cream was a melted mess. It’s not even hot out either for it to be this way. They said all they had available to was chocolate and vanilla soft serve, nothing else. Yet two of the four vanilla ice creams I got had red and green streaks through them as if they added flavoring. The jimmies by the time I walked across the street also were about 95% off the ice cream and in a puddle in the box. The girls were not polite as the other girls who usually are there. I’ve been coming to Kells since I was a kid and this is not what us long time residents remember of this place. Like everything else in the area it has gone downhill and to the yuppies. They think this place is great. Too bad they didn’t know how it used to be...
