Giving this place a two is probably more than generous. The place claims to be opened until 2 am on Friday night. However, when we showed up at 9:35PM, the employees said the kitchen was closing. Because I had a Groupon i wanted to use, we visited the next day, but early enough that the kitchen should not be closed. The waitress is not Ethiopian, but some sort of Asian decent (this is not a bad thing, just unusual compared to many other restaurants of the like we have visited). She was nice enough, but she did not communicate well. The decor of the restaurant was nice, but no music was playing. So we asked the waitress to play some music. She says 'do you want Ethiopian music?' Um...yeah!!!!! Well, we never got to hear music because she didn't know how to work the music player.... Her service wasn't bad, but definitely not the best. The mgmt needs to hire more employees - the only two people there was this waitress and the cook. So the waitress had to help the cook prepare the food. This caused the waitress to not be able to effectively serve us. The food was ok. If I had been to no Ethiopian restaurant, then I would have probably been pleased. I will say this. The Sambusa was very tasty. But I can tell it was previously frozen or cold because the middle was slightly cold, as if it had been previous frozen. But I didn't complain because it wasn't much, and again, they were very tasty. The beef tips were tender, but had no flavor. The doro wat had no egg. First time I've seen this. And the portions are small. Glad I had the Groupon. On to the end....we get our check. I give my Groupon to pay (this would pay for the whole meal). Now, the Groupon clearly states that this is good for one visit, one table, and not applied toward alcoholic beverages. We had NO alcoholic beverages. The waitress said that i could not use the Groupon toward regular beverages, and I told her that the Groupon does not state this, so she accepted and applied everything. This place could be very nice, but it needs a lot of work when it comes to the service and fine details. I don't see us revisiting this particular restaurant again; but glad we...
Read moreI love Ethiopian food - hands down, it is my favorite food. Every Ethiopian restaurant I go to, the food is delicious. Every Ethiopian restaurant I go to, the service is awful. That is why I love to do take-out. Great food and I don't have to deal with the issues!
I only went here for the Groupon deal: $30 worth of food for $13. I specifically chose the deal because it did not say "Dine-in Only." Regardless, an employee said it was dine-in only. I was already in a poor mood as the restaurant smelled like smoke. There was a sign on the wall that read, "Thank you for not smoking." I later saw them putting away their hookah that was in use. Hello?
Reasons I got SO UPSET AT THE SERVICE: Forgot the collard greens in the dish (but came back with them promptly when I pointed it out) To get a water refill, I had to wave down someone. This is something so common, but SO frustrating! I had to do this twice. Only served 2 rolls of injera to us at a time. Had to wave them down for more for 2 more rolls. When we waved them down a second time, the server laughed. She laughed! ?!??!?! One time when I needed service and held my hand up, the two employees took forever. To shed some light, my party was the only one in the restaurant. One employee seemed busy with side work. The other was on the phone, looked at us raising our hand, and turned away to continue talking on the phone.
Why did they make us dine in? For a tip? Alright, they got themselves two very upset customers, this raving review, and earned their spots in our hearts as the worst tip we've ever given.
Food was fantastic. Can't lie. But it's fantastic at every other Ethiopian place in the area. The things they did may seem small, but put yourself in a smoke box with mediocre service; it all adds up and you will understand. Actually, don't do that to yourself. Do yourself a favor and order online from somewhere else. Don't become a victim to terrible Ethiopian restaurant service.
0 stars for service 2...
Read moreThey have wonderful food!! It's community eating with your table, so everyone gets food off of one big plate. I absolutely love the injera bread! It reminds me of sourdough, but the texture is like what they use for crepes, if crepes were spongy. I reccomend getting one of the stews with your meal. The cook came out and showed us to pour the stew on the injera, and it was definitely my favorite part.
Great place to bring friends and enjoy something different. We've been twice and our friends love the place. I just bought another Groupon to go again.
Our waitress, Cola, was great. We had her both times. The place has never been full when we go there. I'm going to take another group of friends here soon. The setting is low lit and they have what I believe is Ethiopian music usually playing. There were a few pieces of pop music mixed in with it.
I definitely recommend going to this place. Everyone I've taken has thoroughly enjoyed it (we're all college students) and have...
