Review part 2: Called ahead for a chorizo torta. Large and in charge with fresh romaine lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, pickled jalapenos (de seeded and de veined for people who can't take the heat) and came with a side of fries. I did chuckle at the fries for looking basic but they were cooked perfectly and were actually seasoned with salt.
Review should be taken with a grain of salt that's and I've already factored that in for myself.
New spot to finally replace the old Hope spoon Cafe or whatever it was before. They've been open for about a month. Came in with my mother to try out the new place during lunch time. Three other tables were already seated and waiting for their food and there was to go food ready on the counter. Young kid server sat us down and came back for drinks, coke and jamaica. Enjoyed their version because it wasn't so sweet, but still had plenty of flavor on a warm day. We then ordered our food: a ground beef burrito for me very adventurous mother and I got a birria de borrego (juicy shredded lamb) on a taco, lengua sope and a cachete (cow cheek) gordita. Food started to roll out for the other tables along with a lot of to go food as well. Our server came by to apologize for the wait because there was only one cook in the morning but now a second one was there. Later on they came by with chips and dip on the house because of the wait. We did get our food though it did take 40 minutes. Luckily we had nowhere to be and were relaxing. When it did come out it was very very good. I haven't had cachete and it just melts in the mouth. The gordita itself was thick and chewy. Sope was crispy and plentiful with great tasting lengua. The taco was the only sad thing here. The meat wasn't juicy but very dry. Taco itself was a standard taco. I'll be coming back again for the chorizo and a...
Read moreFirst time there...I like checking out new places. Especially in Richfield on Penn. Lots of good places popping up in Richfield. Just down from Sandy's.....another favorite of mine and across from Cadao Pho.....yet another. Easy parking. Very clean. Exterior and interior are old but hey.......they put their money in the food!
Joe doesnt have Torta Barbacoas on the menu but I asked if I was missing something....they just said sometimes they have them sometimes not.....in this case he said he would be happy to. The owner seems like a really solid dude. If you are worried about it....I dont....but if you do....... dont worry about the English language skills...very fluent.
Very good Torta. One of my favorites if not THE best in MSP. I eat of lot of these...my favorite is Pineda Tacos on Robert street, but I think it has been dethroned which is great because its a loong way over there.
This thing is basically a mexican sloppy joe.....but on a monster rectangular bun. Generous meat and guacamole along with tomoatoes, fried onions, fried green peppers, and lettuce. Very juicy....and sloppy. Not too much salt. Fresh ingredients.....which seems to be the key with a lot of Mexican food. I asked them to keep the cheese off....and they followed through. Thanks. Smelled great all the way home.
The best thing was a redish / orangish sauce on the side. Lots of heat but a really distinctive earthy flavor. Green sauce is mild but fresh tasting....
Read moreOrdered a burrito and chips and queso for pick up, when we went to grab it at its said done time, it was not ready. No one else was in there, and we waited an extra 10 min for the food. When we got home we noticed they did not include the queso.. instead a cup of salsa? When called they told me they ran out of queso, so why not refund me or tell me that instead of letting me leave with the wrong item? They said give them 30 min and they’d deliver the queso. Okay, fine. The queso in question is just melted yellow/american cheese. Tasted funky and not good at all. The burrito was also not good, cold and no flavor at all. Incredibly disappointed, paid a little over $20 for a bad Burrito, bad queso, and just weird to me that they didn’t tell me upon pick up they were out of queso and tried to play it off with a cup of salsa instead when I paid extra for it. Don’t spend your money, there are better Mexican...
