This place is so cute! We were super pleased to see it finally open after we waited for so long! We live only two blocks away and feel invested in Brookland Park’s development. The decor, atmosphere and music: all stellar. Whoever executed the concept hit it!
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the staff and service. There was a random man standing in the lobby texting and awkwardly attempting to create and maintain conversations with patrons. At first I assumed he was a patron but when the counter staff didn’t see us waiting for a little while he alerted her and I understood him to be staff as well. The woman we interacted with was nice enough after she was told to notice that we were there. She did not apologize for ignoring us or seem to realize that she should.
The restroom was disgusting. Surprising for a grand opening.
The order was as pleasantly called over an intercom so there was no need to keep checking for when it would be ready which was very nice but unnecessary for such a small dining room. The wait was as advertised. The free pop I received for bringing in my flyer was crisp.
This food is delish. You do have to workout to eat at Die By Fry but otherwise… it’s wonderful! We got honey habanero wings (6 out of 10), chicken Shwarma fries (10 out of 10) and shrimp fries (8 out of 10). The Shwarma fries are simply to die for. The shrimp fries are unique and delightful. The wings were actually disappointing. If I got them at a diner at midnight then they would be a 10 out of 10 but at a day time restaurant… basic. Tastes like Sweet Baby Rays.
Overall, my roommate and I have a favorable impression of this establishment and will eagerly return next week for...
Read moreNew Fry spot in Northside RVA. Each option is a full meal IMO. The bang bang shrimp fry had just the right amount of spicy, and the crab cheddar fry (can't think of the actual name) had just the right amount of salty savory flavor. Got the Cajun fry cone that was exceptionally spiced and the mozzarella sticks (although all the cheese came out of it) for the kids. Lastly, the BBQ brisket was full bodied in flavor (got the BBQ sauce to the side), and was thoroughly enjoyed. Spent around $60, for everything, and not sure if it was bc it was our first time, but the cashier lady gave us all drinks with our order (very sweet and helpful). Parking is street only, but the area isn't particularly busy, so it wasn't too much of a challenge. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other fry options, and since they use Toast for their checkout, I was able to already earn a reward (I reccomend signing up if you haven't done...
Read moreFirst time customers- we ordered online, process was easy and fast; for an in person pickup. My husband notes that the front counter person was very friendly and personable- greeted him right away and our order was ready. Our food was packaged well. The food; however, was very underwhelming and undesirable! We ordered 2 order of wings- both orders were overcooked to the point of being burnt-the jalapeños poppers were overcooked and we considered burnt. Lastly, the wings were extremely overcooked ( again burnt) and covered poorly in the ordered sauces. The shrimp fries were mediocre - butat lesser they were not overcooked. My husband ordered the Shawarma fries- it was undercooked and not seasoned. So we certainly had a mixed bag of improperly prepared, cooked and seasoned food. We won’t give it a second try- and don’t feel it’s worth the visit. Hope this honest...
