Morty’s — Restaurant in Richmond

Morty's is exactly the kind of spot every neighborhood dreams of having. It's a focacceria (!!!), a cool little market, and a bar all rolled into one, with a vibe that's inspired by rustic Italy and Central Europe. It just feels welcoming the second you walk in. We dove right into the menu and were blown away. Here's the rundown of what we ordered: *The Drinks: Gazdina Pear Brandy & Rally Car Driver. The brandy was a definite sipper and the rally car driver was a nice all around cocktail. *The Apps: We tried the Chicken Paprikash, which is roasted chicken thigh in the red tomato based and creme fraiche. Very different yet delicious. The Sandwiches: The house-made focaccia is the star here! So fresh and perfect. The Mostly Italian, and the Young Leek. Both were phenomenal, packed with adventurous and comforting flavors. You can tell a lot of thought goes into these combinations. Caesar Salad: I'm not exaggerating when I say this was one of the best Caesar salads I have had in a very long time. The dressing was perfect, the croutons were crunchy... chef's kiss. Do not skip this! Beyond the amazing dine-in menu, I love that it's a multi-purpose space. You can grab a unique bottle of wine from the market, pick up some quality pantry goods, or just post up at the bar for a craft beer or a classic cocktail. The playlist curated a lovely vibe as well. Morty's is more than just a restaurant/ deli; it's a community hub. It's the perfect place to gather with friends or just stumble into a good conversation. My wife and I went twice in this week. Thursday, October 16th and today, October 18th 2025. Luke and Sophia are great people!

I looked at the reviews based on lowest first. Unjustified. The reviews by people giving low scores don't know what they want, they dont know food, and they order simply on what they think a menu title is. Wrong! Ask your service team a question if you dont know. The menu is unique because Marty's is trying to capture some unique Italian and eastern Europe comfort foods.

Only one thing I agree with. The sandwiches are somewhat small compared to what you get in the streets of Rome, Florence, or Napals. I can excuse that because the ingredients you choose to use are more expensive in the States than if you got them fresh from Italy. Nonetheless, I honestly dont think the prices are that bad. Its 2025. You want a $2 burger then make it yourself.

My choice. Get the burrata, cabbage rolls, and fried zucchini. Share with friends with your choice of drink. Thats a fun time! Dont forget to dip and mix flavors. Thats what good food is all about.

Came in on a Thursday at 5:15pm and by the time we left at 6:15 it was filling up, which we were happy to see! Staff was super friendly and service was quick and attentive (Ash was a great server!) My husband and I started with a bowl of the soup of the day which was a fennel sausage and tomato broth with seasonings - it tasty and not too heavy. Then we got the Mostly Italian and Chicken Gabagool. Between the two I favored the Italian but both were delicious. **I think the chicken cutlet is chicken thigh. I usually don’t like thigh but didn’t really notice the different on this sandwich, although I would attribute that to the chicken being slightly dried out (which my husband disagreed with so maybe it was just my half). But the setup on the chicken sub was delicious, the sauce was fresh and cheese sweet and gooey. On the Italian, the pesto aioli was to die for, and the lettuce/onion/aioli mix was perfect. The sandwiches are on a focaccia type bread that I think is made in house. I’d highly recommend this restaurant and will be returning.
