Cute place! Pretty good! Scroll for details. Bagels: I am okay with chewy bagels so it was a 4/5 for me. No one else in my life would eat another one and all complained it was too much work to chew. It’s a similar experience as eating a Pizza Bones crust with more chew. Petite bagel but keep in mind there isn’t a huge hole, if any, so it’s probably the same amount of bread in a bigger bagel! Also, small isn’t always bad. Cream cheese: I got plain and herby. The cream cheese here is superior. Very much worth it. 5/5 Lox+works: Beautiful and delicious. Bigger than I thought it would be. For the price, it was actually worth it, I would say. You can eat one half for breakfast and one at lunch with a side. 5/5 Cost with a small tip: 2 lox+works bagels, 4 plain to go, 1 tub herby cc, topo chico: $60 It felt expensive, but everything like this in RVA is now. They were also very accommodating of my food allergy. (There was just one hiccup. There was an issue with my order that I didn’t see until I got home and bit into the bagel, so I had to drive all the way back (I ordered the lox with the works and only got cream cheese, on both sandwiches), but upon returning, they quickly remade them for me and let me keep the mistake bagels, plus added a couple cookies for my trouble (it was two 40 min round trips).)

I've been to plenty of bagel places over the years, but I can honestly say Julio's Bagels is THE BEST in good ol' RVA. Their bagels and cream cheeses are made fresh in their kitchen daily and are truly delicious! My husband is from New York and is very picky about his bagels and he also LOVES these bagels. Today I had a double toasted (I love the way it makes the seeds taste roasted; so yummy!) Everything bagel with their also freshly made herb cream cheese. It has fresh herbs and finely diced scallions in it and it's creamy, delectable deliciousness! I also tried their espresso/lemonade slushy and was sweetly surprised with how good it tasted! It's a really cool vibe in there; excellent music and decor, and the entire staff is super friendly and very professional. Can't wait to go back to try their coffee and a cinnamon raisin bagel! Soooooo glad this bagel shop opened that's not too far from home!!

Cute place, they did a great job on the vibes-front, but not so much on the bagel-front. I really wanted to like their food. You'd think since they only serve 4 types of bagels (plain, salt, everything and sesame), they would be great - but unfortunately they're just not very good. The bagels are on the smaller side, which is fine, but they are not bagel-y in texture, they reminded me more of a sourdough. We tried their egg and cheese sandwich, had bacon too, which was cooked well, eggs were cooked perfectly too (looking at you, Baltiks with your horrendous eggs), spicy CC is great, herby CC is extremely dill-y, but if that's your thing, it's not bad either. Overall the main problem is their bagels, which is unfortunate for a bagel place.

The line was all the way down the block when we walked to Julio’s 25 minutes after they opened. Once we got inside the menu was quite simple - bagel with spread; lox sandwich; or egg and cheese sandwich. I got the egg and cheese sandwich with bacon and cheddar on an everything bagel. The bacon was crisp, the cheddar had actual texture, and the bagel was perfect.

I’m not a huge fan of Recluse coffee - I prefer nutty and chocolatey to the fruity and winey varieties they offer - but it worked quite well in a cortado.

We’ve long been fans of Pizzabones and were excited to hear that they were expanding into our neighborhood. The wait was worth it. I’m looking forward to lots of return visits, especially once the excitement has...
