My Sister and I are originally from Cleveland, OH, and are use to getting GREAT Corned Beef Sandwiches, and Corned Beef and Cabbage meals. We searched around, and around, then we stumbled upon Dots Back Inn. My sister said her and her husband have eaten there before... but not the Corned Beef, so we thought we would try it, and we took it to go..... BOOOO!! TWO GREAT BIG THUMBS DOWN!!!!! There was SO MUCH FAT!! MORE FAT THEN MEAT!! Most of the Fatty/Meat went straight to the dogs bowl!!! The Corned Beef tasted like it's been sitting in water for a year, and had absolutely No seasoning to it, NOT EVEN PEPPERCORNS. We were going to get a Ruben... (Because, they don't have Corned Beef Sandwiches on the menu).... But they put tomato sauce on it.. and we never heard of that before, and didn't want to have them take it off. For $13 a piece for 3 sandwiches, we thought we were about to eat a great meal... BUT NOPE!! WE WERE WRONG!! After that meal.. We'll NEVER buy that again!! This was my first time there.. and I'm NOT impressed!! And "I" will NOT be back!! Also, after searching around, in the car, and through pictures from restaurants menu's, and delis in Richmond, either the sandwiches are too Small for the price they're asking, too Fatty, or you need to take it home, re-season, and re-cook it! WE will NEVER try Corned Beef Sandwiches or Corned Beef and Cabbage meals in Richmond, VA ever again!! They may have other meals that are good... but you have to find out for yourself.

My son and I stopped by Dot's as I was visiting this particular part of Richmond and this was the closest restaurant to me. I had no idea Dot's was featured on the food network a while back but was pleasantly surprised. This locale has an interesting story and I encourage anyone visiting to read up on it before or while dining. Loved the older WW2 era photos! Our waitress (Danielle) was very pleasant. As this was my first time here, I asked her for a burger recommendation (they all sounded good). She suggested the Ultimate burger while my son got The Club. The food took about 15-20 minutes as there were several seated customers ahead of us. When the food arrived, the burger looked good but the fries (potato chunks) were overcooked. The burger (smash burger, yum,) was good, cooked as I asked. My son's club look really good to which commented after eating all of it that it had a good flavor. I mentioned to our waitress about the fries to which she apologized, stating she would notify the kitchen All in all, I feel like Dot's is a five-star location because of the history and TV publicity but I was disappointed by the fries (potato chunks). The kitchen allowing that food to be served to a customer was concerning. Considering how everything else was good, I will definitely return another time and recommend to friends.

A quintessential neighborhood American restaurant. This place was so busy when we came on a Saturday night, full of families and just people having a good time. But service was prompt and we were checked up on regularly. The food was delicious with very generous portions (none of us had any room for dessert)! I got the catch of the day, which was blacktip shark. I had it grilled with green beans and mashed potatoes. I was pleasantly surprised with the green beans, which were cooked with tomatoes (I'm told it's a Greek preparation style). My husband got the lamb cheesesteak, and his parents got the fried catfish and a salad. Everyone heartily enjoyed their food! There's a good amount of seating, though I would call ahead for larger parties. We came in with a party of 6 (4 adults, 2 kids), and while they were able to accommodate us, it was a lucky and close thing. There's indoor seating and outdoor patio seating, mostly in 4-person tables. There's also bar seating. It's certainly very beloved neighborhood spot, and for good reason. Highly recommend for a quaint, comfort food dinner!

We were driving back from Florida and we've been driving for about 20 hours and Dots Back Inn was the first real restaurant we have eaten at since we drove home. We were really excited to eat at a diner drive in and dive. When we got there we asked to sit outside and they said no we will find u a table inside. She didn't even answer our question. So being a little ticked off we asked for a table inside and they wouldn't even seat us when one of our party of 5 was outside parking the car. One of the party of 5 asked for and ice coffee and our waitress said no so fast u couldn't really understand her. We didn't have any silverware and since we spilled a bit of our drink we needed napkins she was so annoyed that we asked for silverware she was like I'm really busy and I'll get to it when I get to it I don't know of u can see but I have other tables to take orders from too. When we got our food 2 out of the 5 liked their food. Their burgers were good but the pulled pork u didn't know what u were chewing at times. We asked for a specific dessert that someone recommended and we said it wrong and she was like no we don't have that in the snottiest way possible but then she was like we do have this but not until 5. They have a sign that said if your grumpy grouchy or whininy they would make u pay a 10 dollar fine this was obviously a joke but these are almost the exact descriptions of our waitress. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice cozy restaurant with good food and good service. What a dissapointment I think overall It's not a place u should eat at and I will NOT...

I thought I’d leave a review for the Vegetarian Platter appetizer because it seemed like burgers were getting all the love. Since I’ve been on my mission to find good felafel, I was excited to find some right down the street at Dots Back Inn!

I got my order to go. When I opened the lid I found the container chocked full of goodies! There were pepperoncinis, black olives, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, feta cheese. Not done yet! There was red bean hummus, bababganoush, pita triangles and Tzatziki...topped with two generous felafel patties. Yum! The falafel was good (better than most I’ve had though just a touch salty and tad of heat.) I didn’t really care for the red bean hummus (personally think black beans have more flavor). A side of vinaigrette would have been a great drizzle to pull it all together.

I addition I got a cup of loaded potato soup that initially didn’t look appealing but turned out to be delicious!! I’d order that again. A little boop of sour cream would have been a great elevation of flavor.

Overall major deliciousness!! I’m glad I found this dish! Who knew there was felafel a few blocks away!

Just one more comment—I don’t patronize this beloved neighborhood icon that often for one reason—it’s LOUD! Hard to have conversation at a table with your friends without having to yell. Even one time at lunch it’s was surprising noisy. Some people dont seem to mind that but I can’t feel relaxed yelling conversation. I’ll have to find some quiet time to visit.

I enjoyed my...
