Bob-O's Cheesesteaks — Restaurant in Ridgefield Park

Unless one lives under a rock, Philadelphia is known as the place to sample the world’s best cheesesteaks, and for good reason.

This simple makeup of ribeye, cheese, onions, and fresh bread is what makes the sandwich so alluring to anyone. A great cheesesteak requires an even mixing of the parts. That means the cheese is melted and mixed with each crevice of the beef and onions. The bread encases the entirety. Every single bite should be consistent with the last and the next.

However, in Jersey, one might think the best cheesesteaks only come from the boardwalks.

Voted the Best Cheesesteak in Bergen County according to their website, my partner and I decided to pay a visit to Bob-O’s Cheesesteaks, located on Main Street in Ridgefield Park, for lunch.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the staff at a simple and clean interior. Lighting is basic and bright with a row of full windows with single seating providing a more spacious feel as well as 4 tables indoors and 5 tables for outdoor dining during pleasant weather.

Their big-size menu is featured on the wall with cheesesteaks, egg rolls, sides, and much more.

We decided on the Bob-O Sandwich, Chicken Cutlet Sandwich, and Onion Rings.

Food was prepared fresh per order. The sandwiches were really delicious and served hot. However, the peppers used on the Bob-O killed it. It looked like roasted peppers from the jar were used and not the fresh peppers sautéed with onion. The onion rings were hot, crispy with no oil or sogginess and didn’t skimp. The portions were huge, and the price was comparable to the area. Service was fast and friendly.

I was really looking forward to trying this place after reading about it in New Jersey Digest. The menu looked great online, and the fact that they were open until 10 p.m. seemed perfect.

I arrived at 8:40 p.m. Thursday and when I walked in, the lights were on, but the employee at the front was too busy texting on their phone to acknowledge me. I noticed all the bar stools were on the tables, so I asked if they were closed, since their website and google listing said they closed at 10 p.m. The employee didn’t respond and just kept looking at his phone. I repeated my question, this time a bit louder just in case he did not hear me the first time, and from the back, someone said they closed at 9 p.m. It was only 8:40. So my first visit was unfortunately far from what I expected. I left, disappointed and still wanting a freaking cheesesteak.

I decided to give the place a second chance I came back the next day at 5:30 p.m. Friday, and this time, I was greeted right away. I asked again about their hours, and the cashier confirmed they close at 10 p.m., which matched their website and Google listing. I ordered three sandwiches: one with little onions, one normal, and one with provolone. Unfortunately, the sandwich labeled with “little onions” came with a lot. The meat didn’t taste like the usual ribeye. It wasn’t bad or chemical, just different and a little off. I also wish they had cut the meat better, and the sandwich was smaller than I had anticipated.

Overall, I was really disappointed. It’s unfortunate because I love a good cheesesteak, but after two tries, I can’t...

Have you ever had food so magical it instantly makes you happy? At Bob-O’s Cheesteaks you don’t need antidepressants when you have food this amazing. I know. I know. It’s just a cheesesteak spot right? What could be so special? EVERYTHING! These guys are incredible. The bread is perfect , not too hard and not too chewy. The meat!?! Thin shaved rib eye! It melts in your mouth. Fries are perfectly crispy and still nice and fluffy inside. And don’t even get me started on the milkshakes. I made the mistake in getting one the other day and now I want one every day! It’s like they add sparkling happiness into everything they cook. Then it’s kissed by unicorns and blessed by food fairy’s before they wrap it up for you. Seriously guys... it’s amazing. Clean. Not greasy. Perfect portions. Never leave hungry but never have that sluggish heavy feeling like you’ve eaten fast greasy food. This is top notch , high quality , amazingly good food. Every ingredient , and every single thing on the menu is just perfection. So if you are hungry, having a good day or bad day, boyfriend broke up with you, wife mad cause you bought a motorcycle instead of a new dishwasher , or the kids are driving you crazy.... go to Bob-O’s!!!!!! All the stress and worry will melt away within the first few bites of anything on the menu. Seriously! Happiness is infused in every bite! Bob is so sweet and you feel like you’re part of the family every time you sit down to eat. This place serves up perfection on a plate and I think everyone should try it. You’ll be happy...
