This latest Playmaker sports bar has been open for just over 2 months now. The layout is a bit different then the original edition out in Battle Ground, but the atmosphere and vibe are the same. There's really not much of either, but predictably there are numerous TV sets throughout, turned to various sports events. As far as food is concerned, it's well to remember that this is a sports bar, with fairly typical cuisine. Think burgers, wings, tacos, fries, etc. It's fine for what it is, but don't come here expecting a gourmet dining experience. The tacos and wings I've enjoyed here were tasty and filling.
In my humble opinion, service is where this place really shines. Even on a quiet weekday, there were a considerable number of wait staff and bar staff, and they were quick and friendly. Staff here have clearly been trained to ask the name of customers and to interact with them as much as possible. It's impressive and nice to see.
The only quibble I have with the various playmaker sports bars is that prices are a bit on the high side. For example, a dozen wings are typically $23. Unless of course you're here on wing Wednesday, when wings are a buck a piece. Other than that, Playmakers is a great place to hang out with a beer or three while watching "the game.". You can count on being well taken care of by the staff here.
A couple of things to be aware of. Playmakers assesses a small sur charge if you use a credit card. That's spelled out on the front of the food menu. Also, they have various drink and food specials throughout the week, but there are restrictions. That's spelled out pretty clearly in the menu as well, but I've still seen upset customers that didn't read the menu very closely and were surprised when their order wasn't subject to a discount.
All in all, Playmakers is a comfortable, casual, unassuming place to hang out with a drink and a bite while watching various sporting events. If you're expecting more than that, you're probably going to be...
Read moreRecently, we had the opportunity to dine at Playmakers a second time, and unfortunately, our experience improved just slightly. While the food, service, and prices were passable, there were several aspects of the dining experience that fell short.
Firstly, let's talk about the food. While it was decent, it lacked the wow factor that I typically expect when dining out. The flavors were okay, but nothing stood out as exceptional. The menu seemed promising, but the execution didn't quite live up to expectations.
Secondly, the service was good but unremarkable. We received our food in a timely manner, and the staff were polite, but there was a lack of warmth and attentiveness that would have enhanced the overall experience.
As for the prices, they were reasonable, but considering the quality of the food and service, I couldn't help but feel that they were a bit steep. I would have expected better value for money given the overall mediocrity of the dining experience.
One aspect that particularly disappointed me was the unexpected surcharge fee added to the bill. It would have been appreciated if this charge had been clearly communicated beforehand, as it left a sour taste in my mouth and detracted from what was already a lackluster dining experience. We ended up reducing the tip by $3.00 to cover this surprise addition to our bill.
In summary, while Playmakers may be an option if you're in need of a meal, I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it. With just okay food, service, and prices, coupled with the surprise fee, there are certainly better dining establishments to choose from. If you do go, just be aware of their surcharge fee and handle accordingly. Most restaurants do...
Read moreWe went on a double date here the other night, looking forward to trying this place for Taco Tuesday. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. My boyfriend ordered the beef tacos and I ordered the cilantro-lime rice plate. His tacos had barely any beef, a sprinkling of lettuce and a sprinkling of cheese. These "tacos" were nothing but a mouthful of dried out, cold tortillas with very little filling that was room temp. I'm pregnant and avoiding meat, which was difficult to do with everything on their menu having meat, so I settled for the cilantro-lime rice plate. I was looking forward to trying it, but unfortunately it was nothing but a mouthful of soggy, mushy rice (very overcooked), very few beans and corn, tomatoes that were cold and soggy, and waaaaay too many onions. It was served barely lukewarm. The server forgot our friend's appetizer so we had to remind her, and they didn't receive it until after they ate their dinner. She also never offered to refill my drink. Overall, the food was terrible for both us and our friends. Their "tacos" are barely even a taco. We ended up going to Taco Bell afterwards to get decent tacos that actually were stuffed full of filling and served hot. One more thing we found interesting, is that our friends got WhiteClaws and they were charged $3.50 for them, when they are advertised on "Whiteclaw Wednesdays" as being only $3.50 as if it is some kind of deal despite already being $3.50. We were all pretty disappointed with the experience and the food. Hopefully this review is helpful feedback on what can be improved as this business moves forward, but we will not...
