We went to Red Flamboyan on a recommendation from a transplant resident. The service was actually not bad, but I can't say the same for the food.
We ordered the crab entree and a stuffed skirt steak. The skirt steak came with items not listed on the menu, (including mushrooms which I'm allergic to) and was missing the mozzarella. The crab was lacking flavor, but the biggest problem was that it was picked crab which was riddled with shells, so that every bite was crunchy.
We ended up switching dinners so my girlfriend ate the steak (since she's not allergic to mushrooms) and I took the crab and picked through for the shells. If we hadn't been tired from our day, we would have just sent both dishes back and gone to another restaurant honestly....
We asked to speak with the manager, with the request that "we'd rather talk to someone about the issues we had rather than post a bad review online." The manager came over, was quite dismissive, blamed the waiter for not explaining about the mushrooms (it was a regular menu item with descriptions, not a special... This was not the fault of the waiter) and claimed that all fresh, shelled crab has shell remnants in it and the dish was perfectly normal. (I worked in restaurants for nearly a decade, I've picked shells out of crab meat in prep many many times, and my mother used to pick shell remnants out before making crab cakes at home, so it's not unreasonable for me to expect that same level of service in a restaurant that was having an extremely slow night.) I suppose I could even have tolerated if the menu stated "may contain shells" because my girlfriend would then not have ordered it.
After being made to feel like we were being unreasonable, and feeling bad that we inadvertantly got the waiter in trouble (we made a point to say that we were happy with him, but the manager seemed intent on making him the whipping boy instead of listening to constructive critiques) we left with a $10 discount off the bill, feeling generally unhappy about our experience. It wasn't about the money, it was the whole dining experience.
I would not go back, and I would not recommend to anyone else to go, and I told the person who recommended that WE go, not to tell anymore people to go there.
I hope they get their act together. I travel a lot and this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in any country...
Read moreWhile visiting Rincon, we decided on drop by here per recommendations of our friends who had visited this place just six months prior! The restaurant setup was amazing - very much of a beach town vibe. We walked-in around 2:30 pm and the place was quite empty with noise levels on the lower end. Sadly, we were the noisiest table, I felt!
Service was excellent, and we got to ordering right away with some cocktails and beers. For food, we stuck to the basics from their extensive menu, which included, Mofongo Relleno de Pollo ($13.99), Chicken Stew ($18), a Veggie Stew made upon request ($18), Bolitas de Queso ($8), and Ceviche Playero de Camarones ($10).
The Ceviche surprisingly wasn't that great and was missing the tangy/lemony taste. The stew's were the best meal on the table, with the Veggie stew possibly missing the most key ingredient - potatoes and/or carrots! Taste wise though, it was really good.
Food arrived within 20 minutes and ordering. One thing I'd recommend is to lather yourself with mosquito repellent as we did get severely bitten by dem mosquitoes at this place! Overall though, we had a great time at...
Read moreRed flamboyant Dinner Super Esthetically decorated with open air dinning . Nice looking bar . I didn't drink so can't comment on drinks. Dinner was chicken medallion stuffed with mofogo drizzle with guava sauce and sweet plantains. Chicken and mofogo was moist and flavorful. Guava sauce was a perfect addtion. Sweet plantains were no so sweet because they were really ripe enough. The serving was plentiful. Great dinner staff.
Breakfast Unlike the dinner , the breakfast was not plentiful. I had the classic two egg breakfast with ham toast and fruit. The eggs tasted very fresh, tho very small in size. I expected ham on the bone and got a couple slices of deli meat 👎🏻, dry unbuttered toast were 3 triangle slices (1 toast and a half 👎🏻 ) . Fruit was 1 very thin slices of orange , kiwi and strawberry with 3 small blue berries. I asked for French toast on the side and they couldn't accommodate because it wasn't listed as a side. My husband as the same meal with a side of pancakes and we both had cappuccino. The cappuccino was good but the breakfast was...
