SUMMATION: Same excellent dishes and a new not so good one. The announced sale of the restaurant did not take place, although it is still up for sale. They are business as usual with same excellent service and mostly excellent dishes. I have reviewed this place several times on TripAdvisor and will only mention new things.

MY RATING: Good (3.5/5)
RESERVATIONS: required; TAKE OUT: no; DELIVERY: no; CATERING: no See their new rules for reservations online.
PARKING: valet parking is much more pleasant.
LAYOUT: New coffee and juice bar just inside their door to the left, where you can ask for refreshment while you wait. Not free, but convenient.
INTERNET: They have WiFi for free. They gave us the code, but we could not make it work on either of 2 devices.
DRINKS: They now serve alcohol.
FLATWEAR: Four small plates of 3 different patterns and sizes were served for the fruit. Giving the clumsy ambiance of too much company at home.
JUICES: Nothing very interesting (OJ and grapefruit juice). Local tropical flavors should have been available.
FRUIT: Four quarter slices of watermelon, ¼ of a medium papaya, and a small bunch of purple, seedless grapes. They had run out of pineapple. Watermelon was not good, papaya had little flavor, and grapes were okay.
MENU ITEMS: British Style Beans on Toast, El Jibarito [2, pancetta 3], and other new dishes. Lobster Benedict is no longer on their menu. Menu on their web page is outdated.
WAITSTAFF: Excellent, as always
ENTRÉE: I had their old “Dead Elvis” [4 and added Maple Syrup and their chicken sausage; my First Mate’s new “Portobello Road” (roasted portabella mushroom,); a friend’s old “Encore Eggs Benedict” (as described in my previous reviews); and all were excellent; however, the new “El Jibarito” (see above) [2] was not crisp, but mushy, lacked texture, and not very good. The presentations were excellent, particularly the Dead Elvis (see photo). It was also in a generous portion, and the others adequate.
SIDES: I had their excellent, homemade chicken sausage; my First Mate had the croissant and potato sticks removed from their Portobello Road and added an over light egg. Thus creating a new, healthier, dish.
MADE IN THE USA: Their stainless was from Brazil and some plates and a saltshaker from China.
RECOMMENDATIONS: CUSTOMER: (I) If you get coffee at their new bar, while you are waiting, keep your cup and take it to the table. This way they may not charge you for a second cup at the table. MERCHANT: (I) As I have noted in previous reviews “Benny Hill” is not the dish you serve under that name. At least you removed the “Murry” misspelling. (II) Your “El Jibarito” is a failed experiment [2]. Eliminate it before you damage your reputation.
AWARDS: Certificate of Excellence (2015, TripAdvisor).

FOOTNOTES: [1] Plus thousands of unnumbered, critical article and book reviews for hundreds of journals. [2] The jibarito, is a sandwich made with flattened, fried green plantains instead of bread, garlic-flavored mayonnaise, and fillings of meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato. Originally used steak, but chicken and pork are now sometimes used. [3] An Italian bacon made of pork belly meat, salt cured, and spiced with black pepper and sometimes other spices. It is not smoked, like bacon, thick sliced, and in Italy is typically eaten raw. [4] I asked the waitress why the toast did not have peanut butter (as in the original recipe)? She said they tried it that way, in the beginning, but no...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at The English Rose, and it was an experience that truly stands out. Perched high on a mountainside and surrounded by lush tropical forest, the restaurant offers an incredible view of the ocean that takes your breath away.
The drinks were an absolute highlight. I tried the juice of the day, Acerola (crab apple), for the first time and was instantly hooked. It was refreshing and delicious, making me eager to have it again. The Bellini, with its perfect hint of peach, and the Rum Runner, ideal for a poolside or oceanside sip, were equally delightful.
For breakfast, I had an omelette with ham that far exceeded my expectations. The omelette was cooked to perfection, and the accompanying toast with fresh jam was simply divine. It's clear that The English Rose pays meticulous attention to even the simplest dishes, ensuring a memorable dining experience.
The staff at The English Rose deserve special mention. My waitress, along with all the other staff members, was incredibly kind and welcoming. Their warm hospitality added to the overall charm of the place, making us feel right at home.
Some people have mentioned that the road to The English Rose can be a bit challenging, but I found it quite manageable. It requires a bit of patience navigating through tight corners and uneven asphalt, but nothing too daunting. Plus, the journey down is much easier. Once you arrive, you'll find plenty of easy parking, making the slight effort to get there well worth it.
The English Rose is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a delicious meal amidst stunning natural beauty. The combination of breathtaking views, delectable food, superb drinks, and exceptional service makes it a standout destination. Whether you're a local or a traveler, this spot is definitely...
Read moreOn Mother's Day we made a reservation for the first time at Rest English Rose. And it was for the first time in my life that I had the most bitter taste of manager Dana's treatment of one of my 27 year old sons, just because she told him to continue with the women in the food order out of deference to me and his sister. She told him: "You don't have to tell me how to order the meals, it's Mother's Day and I'm here working, so bring down two." I could see from her words how frustrated she was working on Mother's Day and many other things. We were all speechless, we thought about leaving and/or changing our waitress, but everything was going to be full, so we still had the bad taste of this girl's treatment. In the end I spoke to her and not to the owners or managers of the restaurant for not playing with her beans and I pointed out the bad taste she had left in everyone with her abrupt reaction on our first visit when my son never disrespected her. . She replied that she was the manager 3 years ago and that she had to set an example for her employees and that we were in the 21st century. Now I wonder... an example of what? How to mistreat customers who visit the restaurant for the first time? Thank God it happened with decent and tolerant people because others had already left and rightly so. To the owners or administrators of the restaurant, take into consideration giving customer service talks to their employees and that mothers do not work on Mother's Day so that they do not feel frustrated and take it with the clients who are quietly going to have a good time and not so unfortunate situation. I was not going to write anything, but this must not continue any more, neither there nor anywhere else....
