Crabs Out back — Restaurant in Rising Sun

Crabs Out Back, this one, the original, NOT the guy trying to steal your business (name and all) in Conowingo, is the REAL DEAL.

We’ve gotten crabs here three or four times now, consistently good quality, value and service. My experience of two days ago bears retelling. I didn’t have the phone number handy so I used trusty old Google Maps to quickly look up “Crabs Out Back” and make the call. Lady who answered did identify her business as “Crabs Out Back” and I think, in fairness, there was a mention on the recording of the address being on Conowingo Road.

I live on Elk Neck and assumed that Conowingo Road was the local name of the road leading west out of Riding Sun, as it does indeed head towards Conowingo. I inquired about availability, and after much hemming and hawing, was assured that one, possibly two dozen large crabs were available, at $72/ dozen. Lady agreed to hold one dozen and I would probably take a second were they nice crabs. Took my name.

So I drive to Crabs Out Back where I’ve gotten crabs before, and TJ politely told me he didn’t have an order under my name. When I told him that I had spoken with a lady and made the order fifteen minutes prior he realized that I had been fooled by his ex-employee who was in fact trying to steal his business. He asked what I had ordered and told me flat-out that he would honor what I had ordered and do me even better.

True to his word, the two dozen fat, heavy, live and pinching crabs he brought out were topped by four, slightly smaller “bonus” crabs and the price was more than thirty dollars less than I expected. I always steam my own crabs, and they came out wonderfully. Sweet, heavy and every single one of the 28 were as full as they could be. I’ve seldom had better.

Sunday we ordered three dozen jumbo crabs from crabs outback in rising Sun, they were the absolute most amazing crabs I’ve ever had granite. I’ve not had crabs in 10 years, but they were so unbelievably delicious huge crabs. The corn was already shucked, steamed seasoned, and ready to go. And he hooked me up with fruit and I got a great deal on a pound of shrimp that were just amazing. I cannot thank the owner TJ enough. The staff was more than polite and friendly. They carried my crabs and vegetables out to the truck and even checked in on us later that evening to make sure that we were 100% satisfied because I was new to the area and very hesitant about ordering from Cecil County, but this place has any Harford County Place beat!!!! I mean Harford County couldn’t even find me jumbos and I called several places!!! For some of the best crabs ever definitely visit crabs outback let them know Samantha sent you. I’m so glad it was the popular vote when I asked on Facebook Rising Sun page. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️  service, food, quality, and price!!!!! I hadn't had crabs since Memorial Day of 2016, and something triggered my urge for them, which was fine, but, I may have jumped the gun a little on how many was in a bushel. I want sure who had good crabs, and somewhere, I saw another person had asked this very same question. So I figured out where I saw it and went there, and out of like the first 6 people, all but 2 said Crabs Out Back, then it was another random, and then like 3 or 4 more straight, that said Crabs Out Back. So, that's where I called and they had small, medium, large, and extra large, instead of numbers. I don't know if that's how everybody does now but, hey, whatever works. I forgot how expensive crabs were gonna be, but, went with the larges, anyway. I'm gonna tell you though, I definitely was not disappointed in the least. They were all nice size, but most didn't feel very heavy. When you broke them open though, they were just filled with meat, and not overcooked.
