Cedar Tree Mediterranean Cuisine — Restaurant in River Vale

Update spring 2021: Although the food is really quite good here, BEWARE of ordering online and paying up front. For some reason every time we get a discount coupon to be used with online ordering, the timing and service quality drop significantly.

*We like to get dinner from this great local Mediterranean place every week or so. It is easy to order over the phone and we are consistently happy with the quality, quantity, timeliness and pricing. HOWEVER, when they send us email coupons to be used for online ordering only, we have terrible experiences! After ordering we get text confirmation of a reasonable pickup time (30 min +/-), followed by a last minute call that it will take additional 20+ minutes, then we show up and are told it will take yet another 20 minutes or more. . . Granted, on ONE of those occasions they were actually busy and we sat in the car waiting for 1 hour & 15 minutes. 😒 On the other two occasions we sat in the car waiting (approx an hour each time) and there was next to no one eating inside or going in or out to indicate that they were in any way "overwhelmed with business." 🤯 *We definitely recommend the wonderful food, but advise that you eat in or order the takeout over the phone. The 5% online ordering discount is like a bad prank.

I went in for a pick up order & was greeted & helped by a sweet young woman named Madison. An older woman (maybe the owner) came out and looked at me like she saw a ghost as if I weren’t supposed to be in this establishment. I ignored that as she asked was I picking up , I told her yes & explained Madison already helped me.. the woman didn’t say anything after that and scurried out the restaurant. I patiently waited for my food. Once I received it I said thank you to the owner as she walked back in & she balantly ignored me. Once I got outside to my parked car I was being “pulled over” by a police man. I learned the same woman was just coming in from talking to this racist officer so he began to harass me in a parked car. If you are black I wouldn’t recommend eating from this restaurant as you may be a threat to this establishment and have police waiting for you outside. I was a weekly patron for ~4 years here, until one day a delivery driver dropped off my order to a different house on another street. When I went to complain that I hadn't received my order, ownership decided to accuse me of essentially trying to steal from them. We had a standoff for about 20 minutes that included a phone call with the driver, a reiteration of the accusation, and finally a partial (NOT full) refund for an order they sent to someone else. No apology on top of this.

On principle, I have not ordered since. I actively encourage friends and family to order from other locations, as I found the above situation to be one of the most plainly unprofessional things I've ever seen. I say this as someone who spent nearly two decades working in restaurants and running my own restaurant as well.
