I hate writing reviews like this but I felt I needed to at least provide my sub par experience:
What was ordered for two people (dining table) $18 Sashimi $20 Ceviches (El Fish) $16 Oyster Shots (6) $? Agua Jicama $? Corona Bottle
$75 Subtotal Plus 15% Tip
Starting with the Ceviche, this was on point and delicious. Fish cuts were good, not too salty or over-seasoned, just good decent food. Tostadas were nice and crunchy but not so much were it will cut your the top soft area of your mouth. This in my mind was something I knew I would reorder.
Next were the (6) oyster shots presented on a nice wood plank in shot glasses. Now as hungry as I was I took the first and second shot without hesitation washed down with a good chug of beer. My wife on the other hand had a slight awkward look her first shot. These are did not come as fresh as I am use to eating. I usually eat at Market Broiler often enough to know what good oysters should taste like. I did finish my 3rd share of shots and finally understood why she did not like them. A hint of sourness aftertaste settled after a min or so with no wash down of beer.
Finally, we both started tasting the Sashimi, which we both look forward to eating. This over all DID NOT TASTE fresh at all. The fish did have that "fishy" after taste. This of all things got my wife nauseous on top of her already so so experience with the oysters.
Towards the middle and end of my meal, I did not get any follow up from my server on how my food was. I wanted to bring the attention of the concern of food quality.
I did have to get up to request for my check, doing so I explained how much I did not like the Sashimi. The server did go to the back to talk to a person (manager, chef, owner??). No one didn't come out as I would expect. The server apologized that she could not refund nor discount me for the bad Sashimi. She did defend the restaurant position that all their fish is fresh which is responds that would be given by default.
All that being said, I will not bash the server for the lack of attention. But I will bash the restaurant as a whole for food quality and concerns of their customers. I know there are over 4.5 avg with 271 reviews (as of writing this), but I feel that mistakes were made and could have been resolved to preserve their reputations as a restaurant.
For those of you who read this in its entirety, take this as a grain of salt and make your own judgement. BUT, if you taste your food is not what it should be... LET THEM KNOW. Ask for a County Health Card, Ask where they get their Oysters from and see the tag of origin (this is by law not opinion). Just know my wife did not feel well and could not hold her food in after our meal. I am one who has an iron stomach and probably would not have written anything, but to see my wife get sick... well thats a different story.
I am very disappointed with La Cruda Mariscos. I love giving great reviews on good food. But again, I just felt that this...
Read moreSuper good spot! Heard a lot of good reviews from friends about this spot. So my friend and i decided to try it. My compa Erik took me here last Thursday on 2/15/24 for my birthday and paid for lunch.
Had their michelada with a victoria cahuama beer. The chamoy rim around the glass was fire!
We had the oyster shooters as an appetizer. It was my first time trying oyster shooters. Basically, they come in a shot glass made with a clamato michi mix with oysters inside. SUPER BOMB.
My friend ordered the aquachille with salsa negra.
I had the coctele de Camaron y Pulpo large with avocado. (Shrimp and octopus cocktail)
Didn't get to snap any photos this time, but we'll definitely be back !
Would...
Read moreI decided to give La Cruda Mariscos in Riverside a try this afternoon.
I sampled the Gobernador, a marinated cooked shrimp and cheese taco and the Tuna Sashimi.
The tacos were tasty and good sized. I really liked the salsa they were served with. It had just the right amount of kick.
The tuna plate was a very generous portion, fresh and delicious... when you could taste it. It was drenched in some sort of tomato sauce which I didn't care for at all. For me, the tomato flavor overpowered the wonderful taste of the fish. Maybe if there were a lot less of the sauce I would have been okay.
