Always the BEST! Never lets you down! The dogs are great, the chili is awesome, and the accompanying mustard and onions complete the most delicious bites around. The combo is the best choice, which includes 2 dogs, fries with lots a sweet Heinz ketchup, and a large beverage of your choice. If you get it to go or thru the very busy drive thru, it also includes salt if needed. The service is generally fast, and they move many customers through quickly. This is a very popular lunch location, and you'll see all walks of life enjoying tasty dogs! There are two locations in Roanoke, downtown and Brandon Ave, and has been a famous hot dog restaurant for many years. The menu is focused on hot dogs but also offers chili, with some other changing sandwiches such as pork bbq. Don't miss this opportunity, but go early!
Added 5/3/22 Stopped by Roanoke Weiner Stand 2 on Brandon, as that hot dog craving is hard to resist. It was 11am, and at first, I thought they were closed, but there were two cars in the drive thru, so I joined them. The line moved quickly, and I gave my order and was greeted by a friendly and smiling employee at the window. The food was fast, hot, and absolutely delicious as always! I noted the price of a combo had increased to $8.99 ($9.96 with food and sales taxes!), so it's getting a tad expensive for 2 dogs, fries, and drink. There was a help wanted sign out front, so I'm assuming just the drive thru was open.
August, 2024 No changes, just delicious hot dogs and fries served hot, fast, and delicious!
Nov 15, 2024 Went thru the drive-through later in the afternoon, so the restaurant was not at all busy and service was very fast.. The parking lot was somewhat clean, the drive-through order sign had several handwritten signs and changes, and the prices are inching up, as everywhere, but the food was still delicious. Since I did not eat until I got home, the fries were not as hot, but still good, and ample catsup was supplied. The chili is the standout on the dogs, and the supporting cast of onions and mustard round out the flavors of the delicious dog and soft bun. Always good, and getting...
Read moreFirst time here over the weekend in March 2016..... One of the best hot dogs I have ever bitten into. However I want to highlight something I encountered here... Poor service. 1 employee in particular named 'Alex Payne" (a guy with long hair glasses and beard) I found out his name through FB and asking someone who wrote a review on the Brandon Ave Roanoke Weiner Stand FB page about their review.....What happened was I walked in with a good friend of mine whom happens to be a pretty lady. I walked up to the counter and this guy addresses me as "buddy". I didn't mind. It happens a lot in the south. Then he just kept repeating it after every sentence as mentioned by another reviewer... I thought it was kind of strange. I said "ok bud, how much is the meal?" About that time my friend went to use the bathroom. I asked him again how much is it bud? He seemed like he was ignoring me. He made me repeat myself again. After I said bud for a 3rd time he looked at me and said "You trying to be cool infront of that woman, huh" I said "what" He replied "You know what im talking about. don't call me names like that" I replied "sure, ok buddy" He looked at me very dirty and replied "you ok?" In a condescending manner. I just said "Oh yeah, im fine" He said "are you sure?" I said yeah im sure. He replied " I'm serious". Then he laughed. Which was weird.... I just ignored him after that. He plopped our tray down infront of us, but he put it in my friends direction, not my direction.... Haha. Like he was upset or something and was trying to act like I wasn't there. That Payne guy is pretty insecure to get so easily offended. My friend came back and we enjoyed our meal but I couldn't shake the weird impression I got of that guy. Just wanted to highlight him on this post and I would recommend Roanoke Weiner Stand to find a new employee.... I am almost 99.9% positive other reviewers are referring to this guy when they say "poor...
Read moreFast service. Nice personnel. Fabulous hot dogs "all the way" with mustard, onion and chili. It's what they do. Period. Incredible hot dogs. Unique chili. Great wieners. For hot dogs as they SHOULD be, this location or the original location in downtown delivers taste and quality every time. Try some.
And now a revisit today:
Everything I said before ... mostly. I know inflation and supply problems take their toll BUT what the hell are you people thinking? Seriously. I'm not a newbie here. Been eating these hot dogs longer than 99.5% of the employees have been alive. So i ask you, what have you done to the institution of a great hot dog?
The once wonderful weiners were much smaller, harder and difficult to chew. Buns were hard and not well steamed. Must be an onion crisis because there were few pieces on my hot dogs. But gosh, the chili was still uniquely delicious although I still think it's better from the downtown location. I bought THREE hot dogs. Due to the diminished taste and quality, i only ate TWO. A truly sad day I say. Honestly, I have bragged repetitively in MANY corners of this country about how absolutely wonderful Roanoke Weiner Stand hot dogs are. For decades, they have been the standard by which others were judged. Today folks, you let me and my gathering of eight down severely! Weiners 60-65% the previous size just don't make the grade. I know you're capable of doing much better because you have for generations, so why aren't you now?
Johnny would surely be saddened and...
