I've been going here for a couple years now and it's always a pleasant experience. The staff is really nice and helpful, and they're always willing to reciprocate/spark casual conversation about whatever game it is you're hoping to look at. It's a chill, friendly environment, and that's more uncommon at game stores than you might think.
The game selection itself isn't the best I've ever seen, but still very good. Most of the game stores with more vast selections I've been to are closer to the heart of more populated areas. Even still, I hardly ever leave The Tech Exchange without a game.
As someone who's been to a ton of game stores (including others in SWVA with belligerent prices) I find the prices really great. They usually have a great sense of how much condition should lower/raise prices but for the most part items are right around market price. I've even gotten a few things at really good deals! It's super refreshing because the other game stores in SWVA generally have items in awful condition that are somehow still marked ABOVE market price.
I've been really happy with the trade-in prices too, and if I'm not, I simply don't trade them in. Remember, though, you aren't going to get close to market price for a trade in, but it's wayyy better than GameStop here. I had a great experience a couple months ago where an employee buffed out one of my discs - that I held back from trading in - for free. It's typically just a dollar for that service but it still meant a ton!
I haven't bought many non-video game related tech, but when I have, I've been happy with those purchases as well.
Also -- the music inside is always on point and I really enjoy The Tech Exhange's social media content. I'm a student at Virginia Tech and I'll be coming here as long as I'm...
Read moreI would not recommend going there. They told me and my wife that they would give us one price for our laptops and then they gave us something totally different. Our laptops were in great condition. They are cheap skates. I can tell you this they will sell the laptops for about $150.00-$200.00. We will not be going back there again. No one should go there at all. This is my response to the manager. For your information when I walk out the door I was talking to my wife. I was not cursinge, for the fact I don't cuss in front of my kids. Secondly, your employee didn't offer more money and third, that's just like a place like that to take up for a ride employee. I work in customer service myself and there is an old saying, the customer is always right? So I want the rest of my money that he offered us,...
Read moreStraight to business. They evaluate it and tell you what it's worth. You say yes or no. How much was it worth sitting in a box in your closet? Nothing. It was worth nothing.
Now, what is it really worth? It's worth whatever someone is willing to give you for it. Don't get upset when you walk over and see a PS3 selling for 119 bucks and they offer you 50 bucks. They have a light bill and employees to pay. Buy low, sell high. That's business.
But! You need money that's why you came here. And thats what they do.
A pice of advice if you're selling tech: don't put it in the closet when you're done using it, then dig it out three years later and expect top dollar. The best time to sell it was an hour before you taped it up in that box and put it out in the garage three years ago.
No complaints from...
