This place rocks! I tried it for the first time recently for lunch and the food was fantastic. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the awesome, smokey aroma. I had the ribs which were very tender and flavorful and were dry rubbed which I prefer over ribs lathered in thick BBQ sauce. Also tried a few of the sides including the collard greens (which were phenomenal and I think I could have drank the rest of the liquid that was left in the collard green bowl), the Cole slaw, the Mac and cheese, and the corn bread. Also finished lunch with a strawberry rhubarb shortbread dessert which was also just as good. The BBQ sauces that are left on the table were also all fantastic and I think the mustard based BBQ sauce was probably my favorite. They are all very vinegar based which is more Carolina style (which is what I prefer). Everything that I was served was very fresh and you could tell that everything was house made and care was taken with the presentation of the food. The service was very friendly and fast and the owner (at least I believe it was the owner) came out and asked us several times if everything was okay and if they could get us anything else. You can tell that these people care about the quality of the food that they are serving and whether or not their customers are enjoying their time. Good BBQ can be hard to find in New England and this was one of the best, if not THE best, BBQ joint that I have tried in a long time. I will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was first exposed to their food at a friend's party. Couldn't stop eating!! So made it a point to get to their restaurant. Very glad I did. The kitchens attention to quality is obvious. High reviews by folks who know BBQ is a testament. I always order sauces on the side to control use. Whiles others have complained, I enjoy adding my amount of their delicious bbq sauce. This also allows you to appreciate the true taste of their smoked products. Versus being hidden in sugar loaded bbq sauce. The Cole slaw was another item some have tried to put down. It's not your fast food slaw. It's better, using that vinegar base. You just have to know how to eat it. Hint, let the fork drain off liquid. To continue critiquing other reviews, complaint about portion versus price is rude. Do you know what it cost to get a lobster roll?!? This menue is full of product that has gone way up in cost. With prep work more complicated than slapping a burger on a grill. Bottom line, this is a great addition to the culinary mix that is available in the Rochester and seacoast area. The owners and staff are to be cherished. Add MrSippy to your "must go to" list. Then...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am originally from Texas and was hankerin' for some BBQ. I had heard of this place and decided to try it. We ordered ribs with potato salad and Mac and cheese and also pulled pork with mashed sweet potato and black eyed peas. We also got cornbread and a slice of pecan pie. The ribs were good but all the pepper made it inedible for me. It was too much. The pulled pork was dry even with the BBQ sauce. The Mac and cheese had no flavor and we were left looking for the cheese? The black eyed peas had a peculiar flavor (NOTHING like southern style purple Hull peas), the mashed sweet potatoes were yummy, and the potato salad tasted store bought. The cornbread was good but so dry, I nearly choked on it. And I have NEVER EVER seen anyone mess up pecan pie!! I was eating it in the dark and had to go look at it in the light in the kitchen to make sure it was even pecan pie! Tasted NOTHING like any pecan pie I've ever had and I've had A LOT of pecan pie in my life. Trust me. Nearly $60 for me and my wife and we were left feeling like we'd never return. Not at all like any southern BBQ I've ever had. I will stick to Mitchell Hill or the other one...
