It pains me to write this as we've been getting our takeout from Dynasty for as long as we've lived in Rochester, over 30 years. It's always been decent, not the best, not the worst, but it's what we were used to so we always went back. We get takeout 2-3 times a year. Tonight we ordered our usual, Dynasty low mein and crab rangoons. It was disgusting. They seemed to have changed their low mein to something completely different than what we had six months ago. There was almost no flavor in anything. The taste and even the smell was just gross. Even the little cups of the hot mustard were gross, not hot at all and had a weird flavor and smell like swamp water. The only upside was that we didn't get sick from the little we ate. Most of it just went in the trash. To say we're disappointed is an understatement. Like I said, we only get chinese takeout a few times a year but henceforth we'll be looking for someplace different.
Update to clarify response from owner: The 'hot' in the mustard sauce I'm talking about is the spicy hot, not temperature hot. There was no spiciness to it at all. And it tasted very different and not in good way. As for 'mentioning' it to staff, that only works for eating in the restaurant, not takeout. Like I said, we have gotten takeout from you for 30 years. There's been a few changes in taste/flavor over the years as you've changed recipes or perhaps suppliers of your ingredients but it's always at least tasted good. Not anymore.
As for my 2/5 stars for Service, that's because the two very young ladies working the register were not like the attentive and pleasant people in the past and could barely look up from their phones when checking me out. Sure, it's a sign of the times with young people and their phone addictions, but one has to wonder if this lack of attention to detail has found its way into the kitchen and food prep as well. If you are indeed the owner of this restaurant then you might want to address these issues or continue to lose business of people that have been dedicated customers...
Read moreI would give negative stars if I could. We ordered lunch for our family. They refused to accommodate dietary and medical needs for the order. When we received the order it was incorrect. We called the location and an employee took our order over the phone. I had to repeat myself several times. They refused to accommodate the fact that we had dietary restrictions in our family including a several shellfish allergy. They were asked several times to make sure the food was packaged so my family member did not have a life threatening allergic reaction. The manager got on the phone and still refused to package food separately. I then had the employee read the order back to me. It was correct when he read it back. When the order was picked up by my friends husband not only was the shellfish packaged with all the other food, touching and contaminating it, the order was completely wrong. I called back and was told by the manager that my order was put in the system incorrectly. What food that could be eaten was disgusting, burnt, and ice cold. I requested a full refund and never got a call back. I am extremely disgusted in their business practices, they are both unsafe and lazy. We also asked for a broken down receipt because our entirely family had ordered and was only given a credit card slip that only had the total after being told by the employee they would include it. Not only that but they flat out LIED about the situation when brought to the BBB even though I had proof of...
Read moreWhen I lived in the area shortly after the turn of the last century, I found Dynasty Restaurant and their buffet. Back then it was every day and I remembered it being from opening to early evening. Now, their buffet is Thursday through Sunday 11 to 3 and several hours starting at 5. Nonetheless, it's a decent buffet. I say this as a person who enjoys General Tao's chicken, Dynasty's needs to be spicier. I can only guess theirs was toned down for people who can't handle spicy food. They do have an excellent lobster/crab sauce. If you are visiting Dynasty for the buffet, you have to request the rice. It is not out amongst the other buffet items. Dynasty does serve other dishes. They have a wide selection of food including during their buffet times. Besides booths, Dynasty has table seating, however, know that many tables are setup side-by-side several in a row much like it's done in Europe. It's often called 'family style' seating, but please don't take your shoes off or unbutton your pants while dining there that way. Dynasty has Pepsi products, not Coke.
It has been reported to me Dynasty was closed for awhile during the pandemic. I hope once business picks up, they will offer the buffet...
