El Tapatio of Rock Falls — Restaurant in Rock Falls

The dishes we had were all either very good or a strong good. And there was plenty of food!

My wife had the vegetable fajitas and called them 1st rate. I had a platter with cheese enchilada and chalupa was very nice.

There was a pile of lettuce, etc., and guacamole ready to load the chalupa with. And there was enough of the guacamole and lettuce, etc., to have filled another couple of chalupas which, sadly, I didn't have.

There was so much food to go on the chalupa and dress the enchilada that I honestly don't recall exactly what it included, besides the aforementioned fixings and guacamole.

Certainly there were refried beans. There may have been sour cream too. Whatever was there I ate happily.

These meals were wholesome, uncomplicated, and very enjoyable.

I found the guacamole too salty. My wife did not. That was my only complaint about the food, and it was a minor one.

The wait staff was competent; the service was perfunctory. But the food made up for any lapses.

The atmosphere consisted of some red and green garlands, a group of sombreros attached to a wall, and latin music, singers, accordions, guitars, "mariachi"-style brass, etc. I'm not knowledgeable about any of the styles being played, but they were all tuneful and professional.

The restrooms deserve no mention, so I won't.

So that's it. Very good food, big portions, great chips(!), guacamole that had set too close to the salt shaker, everything else basic. But as we were leaving the place was starting to fill up, and it looked to be a happy crowd. I hope their food was as...

The food was great, except the flautas weren't as crispy as they are supposed to be. The rice and beans and hot sauce were Excellent! The service by our server was great! He was an attentive young man. 🙂👌🏽 One thing that wasn't great about thw service was this young chica server, who Wasn't ours but yet had the audacity to keep on very obviously Glaring at us whenever she made Sure to walk by our table... I used to be a waitress so it became obvious to me what she was doing and why by the third time out of at least 6 times, that she did this... Ive never teeated customers like this before, but ive seen it Many times: we were taking too long to wrap up our visit and finish the last of our food for her liking, so she was Trying to be subtle in letting us 'know' that she was waiting for ua to make our table available to new customers as the restaurant was getting pretty packed by this point... It surely is Terrible service though to Ever do that to paying customers that are actually still enjoying their food, drinks and their space while thwy have it! I wish I knew her name, but Ill just give her and her nasty, selfish attitude to God to take care of. She'll get herself caught up with that attitude with other customers most likely and hopefully get it fixed so she dont loose her job. Other than that, again, great...

First of all, the person who greeted us when we walked in the door took almost a full minute to look up from counting his tip money then told us we could sit wherever. We had multiple people come to our table to take our food/drink orders. I don’t think we saw the same waiter twice. All of them were not friendly or welcoming. We ordered the Juanita special and the Alan special. The Alan special was a simple dish with melted cheese underneath Mexican rice and topped with chicken. It was barely warm and the chicken tasted old and frozen. Half way through the meal I got up to go to the restroom. There was a waitress in one of the bathroom stalls. When she was done, she walked out of the bathroom and didn’t wash her hands. When I got back out to the dining room, the same waitress was rolling silverware in one of the booths. Normally I would’ve left right then and there but I had already eaten the food and we were just waiting on our bill. Which ended up being $23!!!! Incredibly way too high of prices for quality of food and customer service. We will not be returning nor will we recommend this restaurant to anyone.
