If you would like courteous and efficient service, Do Not come to Rockaway Paris Baguette. Unfortunately they have lost my business on the 1st visit. The young man at checkout was busy talking and laughing with one another young man that was draped over and blocking the display case. In the meantime, another older employee (maybe a manager), continued to count the tip jars at the other open registers, and ignore customers. I patiently waited as the couple in front of me stepped away from the checkout (why would the business not help the next customer while people are still deciding on items is beyond me), and came back to slowly checkout because the young men and a young woman behind the counter continued to talk around the customers. As the couple moved aside, the young man who was blocking the display case now moves over to have a conversation with the young man still at checkout. I then asked if there was only one checkout and the man counting the tip jars nudged him to move it along. As the display blocker starts to step aside, a woman barrels thru and starts to ask the young man at checkout a question, I then interjected stating I’ve been waiting and simply want to check out (I shouldn’t have to beg to pay, seriously!). Checkout was now answering a question for the young lady behind the counter, who also looked very lost. Checkout then turned around and started to help the rude woman who cut in front of me! Now I considered that this job could be their very first job and or maybe they just opened their doors today, but I gave them plenty of my time and patience without receiving simple acknowledgment or respect for their customer. I am always the devils advocate but this was ridiculous! I had to put down the box of pastries I collected, and the tongs I used and walk out of the store. Sad for them because I spend a lot of money on pastries and they could have had a returning customer. I will continue to get my pastry fix at a place that greets their customers, doesn’t have private conversations & giggling while actively serving customers, and respects their customers time. The quality establishment I speak of is in Denville, called Chocolatine, believe me, go there, your taste buds will Love it, you will still have to wait but at least you get...
Read moreI've visited 3 different Paris Baguette locations in NJ, understanding these are franchised businesses. The Ridgewood and Wayne locations were great, the food was fresh and had plant of inventory, the restaurant was packed but the lines moved quickly, and service was friendly. This location in Rockaway was an utter disappointment. My experience started walking around the pastries on display, many of which were the last ones or had none left, and some of which were missing labels. I went to grab a tray, tongs, and wax paper as the sign suggests, however they were out of wax paper. I went to the front to request it but after waiting a few minutes while the o ly employee made a coffee beverage, I decided to walk back over and use the small handheld wax papers around the pastry display. I selected 4 pastries - 2 small, round and 2 long twisted pastries. I went to the cashier and asked if she would be providing a box for the pastries. She informed me they'd have to go in a bag as the longer ones wouldn't fit in their boxes. I asked if she could please put the two small ones in the box as they would fit and had cream inside and I didn't want them ruined on my long drive home. She said no and informed me she was only permitted to put 4 or more small pastries in a box and I'd only be permitted 2 paper bags. I remarked at how ridiculous this is, to spend over $20 on four beautiful pastries and be denied a box to transport them. Of course, my pretty mango brioche was flattened after the drive home.
Typically, I would not post a review regarding such a minor issue but it really surprised me that even after directly requesting a box and complaining about the ridiculousness of this rule, the clerk refused. Knowing a big part of the joy of pastries isn't just how they taste but how they look, I'd have to recommend purchasing elsewhere. Or at least making an informed decision. If you go to this PB location, don't expect a box for anything less than 4 small pastries. 2 small and 2 large will not qualify.
FYI there are many bakeries to choose from near Rockaway NJ, like Starseed, Endulzarte, Mo'Pweeze, Delikositas, and others. I'd shop around before giving more of my money to this...
Read moreI am not the one to share bad reviews, but this one is necessary. I was here on Thursday and had a nice experience. I returned this morning with my fiancé for breakfast and had the most unacceptable experience. I ordered 2 frozen hot chocolates and 2 breakfast sandwiches. After waiting 20+ minutes for out drinks, they were made incorrectly and had a strong flavor of coffee. Neither of us drink any coffee. I kindly returned to the front and explained to them, these have coffee in them, which was not correct. One of the girls became nasty with me, saying how I shouldn’t be “ordering items off the menu”, and when I explained they made them for me 2 days prior (when the owner was there), she stated he was fired and that they should’ve never done that. I respectfully asked her not to be rude to me, as I was not being rude to her, which then made her become more rude. When I asked for a refund, the girl at the front had no idea how to do so. After another 10 minutes, I returned to my table to my breakfast sandwich being cold, and my fiancé’s sandwich having some kind of mustard on it, that it should not have had on it. Now I had wasted 45 minutes on an un-edible meal, and spent almost $30 for everything to be thrown away. Horrible service and completely unacceptable. If they were prepared, staffed, or trained to open, they...
