A newcomer to the South shore, Roy's Kabab combines style with clever Traditional Mediterranean Lebanese Cuisine.
Roy's just opened in August 2020 and offers a wide variety of Lebanese inspired food for the American taste. The offerings include appetizers, sandwiches. Wraps, platters, and deserts at competitive prices.
Because of COVID-19 it's currently just take-out, but there are tables for those that will want to eat in one this has passed.
I tried the Chicken and Beef Shawarma wraps. Roy uses fresh ingredients and prepares them exactly right. Unlike some places, the meat is cooked perfectly... not well done or rare... just the way I like it.
The Chicken Shawarma Wrap is marinated shaved chicken with lots of garlic, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. It is served wrapped in fresh pita bread. As a garlic lover Roy has added just enough without being overpowering. The tomatoes are perfectly ripe, and the chicken is cooked and seasoned with a light Mediterranean flavor. So far this is favorite, but I am looking forward to trying more items.
The Beef Shawarma Wrap is marinated shaved beef with parsley, onions, tomatoes pickles, with a drizzle of tahini sauce. This is delicious.
Tahini sauce used to be an obscure and exotic ingredient to most of us North American cooks, but it seems tahini is everywhere now. Tahini (pronounced te-hi-ni) is a staple of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking. It is a super creamy, rich vegan paste made by finely grinding roasted sesame seeds until buttery smooth. I have heard some referring to tahini as a “nut butter” of sorts. Roy has perfected his recipe and the Tahini he makes is some of the best I've had, and it complements the chicken for a wonderful taste. The Chicken Shawarma (either wrap or full dinner platter) is worth trying, even if it’s just for the wonderful Tahini Sauce Roy makes.
For dessert I tried a Baklava. Normally we think of Baklava as Greek, but it's actually part of the cuisines of the Egypt, Levant and the broader Middle East, along with South Caucasus, Balkans, the Maghreb and Central Asia. Baklava is a rich, sweet dessert pastry made of layers of filo filled with chopped nuts and sweetened and held together with syrup, frosting or honey.
The traditional Greek recipe is made with pistachios being the nut of choice and the syrup is honey. Usually Greek Baklava is almost swimming in honey. An ultra-sweet in my opinion.
Roy uses a traditional Lebanese recipe. This is made with walnuts and possibly with orange blossom water (I'm not totally sure, but the taste is there). Roy's Lebanese baklava is lighter on the syrup than the Greek variety, enabling people to have a few more bites, or, conversely to make sure you don’t get sick after eating too much of it. Roy’s baklava is also much lighter, in terms of the weight and flakiness of the pastry. To me, this is one of Roy's signature dishes. It's excellent, light to the pallet, sweet, but not overpowering, with just a bit of a crunch. The flavors mix very well and it a pleasure to enjoy. Defiantly a reason to go back.
In summary, this is one restaurant I will be going back to. An excellent value for authentic Lebanese and...
Read moreGreat food, clean and welcoming place, great people, good prices. You can't can't go wrong at Roy's Kabab for a quick meal. You can get your food to go, or eat at one of their few tables. Say hi to Roy, the owner. He also does the cooking. You know you are getting good food when the founder is in the kitchen.
So I am sitting in my office nearby when I think to myself, "I would love some boneless, skinless, grilled chicken." I drive over the the nearby strip mall, and find Roy's Kabab has taken over a spot there. "What the heck," I says to myself, "let's try it." I am so happy I did! That was about two weeks ago, and I have been back at least half a dozen times since! This place is great!
The stuffed grape leaves are incredibly fresh. I have never had them with meat in them before, and I love them. The chicken is wonderful. The sauces make my co-workers' mouths water as they go by my office. Thanks to social distancing I never have to share! (I will have to start picking up some extra).
I am on to the beef skewers with a side of garlic sauce and hummus. I have eaten it the last three days in a row. It's that good! At about 10AM I start thinking about lunch, and I am eager for Roy's Kabab. I call ahead, pick it up, and eat at my desk.
I am not affiliated with this restaurant beyond being a happy customer. Thanks Roy and the wonderful staff at...
Read moreFirst time here I like to try new restaurants and I’m glad I tried this one. I got 3 platters 2 beef and 1 chicken everything was delicious and on point. I can’t recommend the chicken shawarma platter enough. They definitely have bigger portions then most of the restaurants of the same style. Definitely Will be back
This used to be one of my favorite places to eat. The food is good, they usually take a while to prepare it but that’s ok. The reason I’m changing this review is because the lady upfront is rude. You get 1 star for rudeness. What’s crazy is when this place first opened I was the first one to leave a review...a 5 star review at that. I don’t expect special treatment because you that. I’m just asking for common courtesy. When some one says thank you you say your welcome when some one says have a good night. You don’t angrily stare at them because they came in 10 minutes early. I will sit in the dinning room and call and place my order from there and wait the whole time if I want that is my decision...
