I had some extra time and wanted to help a local small business. The waitress/ hostess was friendly enough and said " your can sit anywhere." So I picked a booth and started smelling a sour odor created from a dishrag that had been sitting in a stagnant , cold bucket of water with very little soap or even a hint of bleach or disinfectant. So I looked on the table, and there was what appeared to be smeared peanut butter. ( or eggs?) I'm not sure but to the server's credit she Immediately cleaned the table with some attention to detail this time but I didn't hear any apology or acknowledgment of the oversight and when I told her of the sour smell she didn't seem to really understand what I was trying to get at. The food arrived in a timely manner and the hash browns were cooked exactly how I ordered them ( crispy) but the " Motherlode" entrée ( which was filled with turkey inside) had a very noticeable taste that hinted strongly of being spoiled. That tainted meat was enough to make me spit out out because I didn't want to get sick. I usually have a iron stomach and have eaten military food for over 20 years ( some of it with flies on it in a combat zone), but o could not even attempt to finish the rest. So i let the server know about it and she said ," she'd let the chef / owner? know about it, but again, very little acknowledgment to the seriousness of the situation and no apology. She probably would have had something else cooked to substitute, but I was kind is in a hurry, so I left. The windows were much is need of cleaning and I did overhear that they were going to hire someone to clean them, so that's goof. I hope the owner uses this review to improve on cleanliness and not try to maximize shelf life on meats. That is only not good business practice, but can lead to a very bad day for those who ingest it. Wishing them luck in their future improvements...
Read moreSorry for the long review. I just think this place is worth it.
Let me start with saying I had a great experience!
Went to Marmalade for lunch today. Unfortunately I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures of our food. I hadn't been there since the new owners took over about a year ago due to travel. I am amazed by the transformation of this place. While not a complete remodel, everything appears to have been cleaned and/or updated. I have seen some reviews that have been less than complimentary, but I'm guessing they may have come before the current owners took over.
Frankly, I couldn't find anything to complain about. It's a local, independent, family owned, homey, no frills restaurant. Not a cookie cutter chain. I would much rather give feedback to help a local business rather than post a negative review. That's just me. As far as my review, here goes! The staff was welcoming and friendly as soon as we walked in. We were seated right away. The menu is big. Lots of choices! Especially the breakfast items. I opted for a classic burger. It was fantastic! It was a big, juicy burger topped with fresh lettuce, tomato and onions. Cooked medium rare as I requested. I ordered with a side of hash browns. My wife ordered the Irish skillet. It was huge! Everything was fresh and cooked to order. Some reviews seemed to think the prices were high. I thought the pricing was very reasonable considering the portions and quality of the food. Let's be real, prices have gone up everywhere. If you haven't noticed that, you probably don't go out much.
A meal for two at the golden arches will run you about $20. I spent a bit over $10 more and got a real, quality home cooked meal.
Take my money please!
I will...
Read moreWhat a great breakfast breakfast/brunch restaurant! We had planned to eat in Melbourne Beach or Indian Atlantic today, but due to our daughters car not being drivable, we went to Rockledge to pick her up to celebrate her dad's birthday, instead. I was googling places to eat breakfast up there and super glad we found Marmalades! The egg of the omelette was perfect! And it was filled with some of my favorites… Mushrooms, tomatoes, asparagus, broccoli, cheese, bacon and I had them top it with hollandaise sauce. And since I didn't want the potatoes they offered the option of sautéed spinach, instead… BRAVO! I had shown my husband a picture of shrimp and grits, as we were selecting the restaurant from Google. Turns out it must be a special sometimes, but they made sure they had the ingredients and made it for the birthday boy, which was really going the extra mile! Our server, gabby, was very attentive and super sweet. She even put a little birthday candle in a pack of butter so my Hubbs could blow it out after we sing happy birthday to him! And the shrimp and grits was good, as was the eggs Benedict that our daughter had. Prices were very reasonable and I would definitely go back when I'm in the area and recommend you try it if you're...
