I've been a customer of theirs for many years and over that period, my friends and I have had definite ups and downs with both their service and attitude of their staff. I went back today with two friends after a long absence and ended up walking out. We weren't allowed to be seated until all of us had arrived, which is an old policy, which was often over-looked in the past. It wasn't even that crowded so why they made us wait is a mystery. We were ushered to our table and Krystal seated us at a very small table, directly under a blasting overhead fan. We asked to move to one of the empty tables nearby and she told us...in no uncertain terms... that "those tables are reserved." I SERIOUSLY doubt that there wasn't another table available. We asked her - twice - to please turn off the fan. She refused. "It's 90 degrees out there, and we need to have the fan on," we were rudely told. "And we run around a lot in here so we need to have it on." (Even though it was directly ABOVE our heads and in NO way could have helped her). She obviously didn't get the memo that IT'S NOT ABOUT HER. It SHOULD be about pleasing the customers. We said that we were leaving. "Okay, but you have to pay for the coffee." (Coffee was terrible but my friend paid the $3 and LEFT it). Before we left I went up to the counter where she had retreated and asked for her name. I told her that I was a journalist and would be spreading this story online everywhere I could. "Go ahead," she told me. So here I am, as promised. We went to Uncle D's in Berlin, where we were treated to a warm, friendly, welcoming atmosphere along with a delicious breakfast. I highly recommend it. We will NEVER go...
Read moreWent two Saturdays in a row around the Fourth of July 2025.
The first time was with one other person, the second time was with four adult adults and three children, one of whom needed a booster seat.
I used to go to this restaurant a lot, and then for various reasons hadn’t been for a long time.
It is under new ownership, and it is truly a gem.
Most importantly, in my opinion, the food is fabulous. The flavors, the presentation, the options, the portions, the customization - all top notch.
To my surprise, they now have adult beverage options; especially nice for brunch on the weekend - mimosas and bloody Marys, and more - the espresso martini was to die for.
There is truly something for everyone, whether you want breakfast, lunch, or a snack. The kids in my party were age 7 and nine and especially amazed by the variety of lemonade options.
Parties in my two visits had: eggs Benedict, both standard and Irish; corned beef Reuben sandwich with coleslaw; a large fancy salad that I don’t remember the name of, but was fabulous; a specialty sandwich served open face with fries; grilled cheese; egg salad sandwich. A lot of these items I’ve had before, and they are just exquisitely better now.
Watching other foods come out to neighboring tables was frankly drool-worthy.
I highly recommend; just be aware that as always, you get what you pay for, this is not a “budget” option, but prices are totally comparable to other sit-down breakfast and lunch restaurants in the vicinity. And most importantly, the value is 100%.
I can’t...
Read moreFirst off, if I could rate this place half a star, I would have.
I am a regular of NYPD and yet it seems they do not care about customer service or quality of food. There were 4 of us trying to have lunch. It was busy and there were 2 tables left. One had a sign, "Reserved for 5". The other was a smaller table which barely fit 4. When we asked if we could sit at the table for 5, the waitress rudely said no and forced us to sit at the smaller table. Minutes after, another group with only 3 people come in and they sit down at the table for 5. How about asking if a switch would be acceptable? Not to mention, they have a whole other side of the restaurant they don't use. Solid use of space there...
Then the food. My friend asked for a simple sandwich. Pastrami, provolone, on white. Yellow mustard on the side. 30 mins later, sandwich comes with, you guessed it, yellow mustard on the sandwich. We had to get back to work so we could not wait another 30 mins for them to remake it. No apology either. Our whole group ordered french fries and they were awful. Soggy and cold.
I will give them credit for this, they actually were able to remember lemon in the water today. You could say it was a minor miracle that they got that right.
We have taken them off our rotation of weekly lunch places as of today. The lack of customer service and food quality has always been a problem - today just happened to be the last straw. They are more concerned with getting you in and out as fast as...
