Hing Ta Restaurant — Restaurant in Rocky Mount

I didn't take any photos this time around as I didn't have my iPad with me (my iPhone was stolen in Johannesburg and I haven't replaced it yet) but I can tell you that this place was just what the Doctor ordered!

Like most of you, I read the reviews prior to choosing this place. There were several negative reviews about the buffet selection and the price.

While I agree that the price was higher than most, I disagree that the buffet selection was subpar. Yes, there's only one food bar whereas most Chinese buffets have 4-6, however, the quality of food was incredibly fresh and delicious! There's also a dessert bar that had sufficient options as well as an ice cream machine.

Because of the price, this made the place feel more exclusive which means that it wasn't crowded or had children running rampant. That said, the children who were there weren't running around (because they didn't have enough space 😂) and seemed to be well-behaved.

The restaurant is wheelchair accessible from the door to the buffet bar and there's a section where wheelchairs can access tables that don't require you to step down.

The parking lot is a decent size and has ample space if you arrive when it's not busy.

The last thing I'll say is that the service was very friendly and the server was attentive to our needs.

BUYER BEWARE!!! Sometimes I wonder if establishments are leaving their own reviews to attract customers… The buffet is $20 per person and I didn’t like anything I tried. I was HUGELY DISAPPOINTED after seeing 4.1 stars on Google ( Like seriously NOT POSSIBLE!!). The buffet is TINY, the place is small, and the environment is really awkward because the staff is always watching you up close and personal. Likely to make sure you’re not wasting the food (like their signs say or they’ll charge you extra) which is IMPOSSIBLE because it’s barely eatable. ALSO my young daughter is CLEARLY under 10 years old and they tried to charge me $20 for her TOO!!! And she barely ate because she said “This food is yucky Mommy… Do I HAVE to eat it?” NOPE! NOPE you don’t baby because Mommy isn’t eating hers either. They also have an ice cream machine that tastes like walls are rimmed the old curdled milk from never being cleaned. BTW sanitation score is 92.0 (as of 7/26/24) My husband is a restaurant manager and do you know what kind of things they must have found to get knocked down to a 92.0? This was one of the BEST Chinese Restaurant/Buffet places I have ever visited!! It's not your typical "Chinese Buffet Restaurant" with the 6-10 tables of food to choose from, there's only one simple hot bar, one salad bar, one dessert bar (with an Ice Cream machine) and toppings. But I assure you the simplicity of the design has no effect on the taste, preparation or amount of food you receive! I found that with "less" food offered, the quality and freshness was much greater! And i have to mention that they have several offerings that you do not typically find at other Buffet type establishments, although it's only one bar of hot dishes you have 12-15 different offerings, they are refilled fresh at a very constant pace I noticed as well. They also offer a full menu other than the Buffet and the service was wonderful! They even make their own homemade Duck Sauce available upon request at no additional charge. They offer greatly flavored dishes, as much as you'd like with a gracious smile! The restaurant was clean, the restrooms were clean and well stocked and the hostess/cashier was very friendly.
