El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Rocky Mount

The food here is fantastic so I hate to have to give the place only 2 stars. We've been coming here for takeout 2-4 times a month for about 5 yrs. It was hands down our favorite restaurant! Then about a year ago we started having issues. We always ordered the same menu items; Cheese dip, Chicken/Steak Fajitas and Grilled Chicken & Rice. One day I got home and my Fajitas consisted of about 80% onions & peppers and 20% meat! Next time I ordered I told them what had happened and asked for light onions & peppers. Once in the car I checked and the Fajitas were great like they always had been before. But when I got home my husband had mostly rice for dinner as they had shorted him that much on the chicken! This has since been a frequent problem. It got so bad that it was even happening when I mentioned it upon ordering! The final straw was about 2 months ago when my cheese dip was so watered down that it stayed completely liquid when cold! Needless to say we were very disappointed to see what was once a really quality establishment cutting corners to this degree. Using less while charging the same may make you a little extra money now but it also rips off your customers and sends them somewhere else in the future. So it really doesn't pay off in the long run. My family and I visited this restaurant on 3/13/21 to celebrate a few birthdays! I have to admit this was the absolute worst dining experience I have ever had in my life! The initial wait time give to us was 15-20 minutes. We ended up waiting almost an hour. The staff we dealt with all had attitudes before we even sat down. When we were finally seated, two members of our party had to sit away from our table in a booth. The waiters were very rude and treated us as if they had better things to do. We received our food but had to wait 20 minutes for our utensils after asking for them twice. I never received my water. We asked for smaller dishes so that we could have more room on the table, never received them. My sisters who had to sit at the booth didn’t receive their food until 20 mins before we left and it was cold. We requested to speak to the manager, he never came to our table. And finally the waiter didn’t return my sisters debit card to her after her payment. When asked about it he nonchalantly said “well I don’t know, it may still be in the bill folder” and walked away. We followed him and he looked through the folders, found her card and held out the folder for us to retrieve it. He had an attitude the entire time and never once apologized for any of the issues we had that night, especially with the debit card. I will not be returning back to...

I finally was able to figure out how I could get me some El Tapatio mexican food by placing an order online and it was on. I went through the menu and found the best dish on the menu, which is the shrimp, chicken, and steak over rice with cheese sauce. I decided not to get steak this time though and opted to try a beef taco instead. I placed up my order and waited to get off work.

I pull up, park and get inside thinking my food is not going to be ready and imma have to wait. No sir, it was waiting on me. That's the type of business I can deal with. It was ready on time and it was right. It had everything in it that I asked for.

I get home and there was plenty of food in this tray and it looked good. I had plenty of shrimp right on top of the dish and they were fattys too. These were nice recognizable shrimp unlike some other places that hide the shrimp down inside the rice and I have to find them because they are so small. I had plenty of chicken and rice as well. My taco was a taco but it was my fault it was cold because I ate it after I got home. Tacos should be eaten right away while they are still hot to get the full effect. I took the lettuce off and it was still enjoyable. The food was really good and I think they did a good job.
