I have never felt more disrespected at a restaurant than the 2 times I visited Clive's in Rogers.
The first time we visited here, we were told there is no happy hour on Fridays , then when we found out there was, we were still charged full price for our drinks and appetizers which should have been happy hour priced. Their happy hour menu lists only Monday through Thursday when even though it goes through Saturday according to the manager that was there.
On this same visit, our party of 5 was sat at a 6 person table then asked in the middle of visiting with each other to move to a cramped 4 person table. Absolutely rediculous. I have never, ever been asked to move tables at a restaurant. Our tab was there given to us without asking for it as if we were being forced out of the restaurant because at this point we were only having drinks while still trying to catch up with our friends.
The place is cramped between tables. There is not enough room to walk between tables to get to the restrooms without feeling like you are rubbing up against the back of someone's head or back or having to wait for someone else to walk through the aisle beforehand.
Our second visit here proved not much better. We waited for about 50 minutes while we watched multiple tables not be sat and remain open and small parties be sat at tables much too large for them (2 people sat at tables for 4 or 6 people). This is incredibly frustrating.
We were then sat at a table that we had been watching be open without anyone sitting in it for about 30 minutes after visiting the hostess stand to see how long of a wait was remaining for us. I don't think we would have been seated without me visiting the hostess stand. The restaurant also relies on text messaging for your wait instead of the pager devices most other restaurants use. This seems like it would cause many people to miss their turn to be sat if they have poor cellular service or may not hear/feel their phone ring.
We then were sat in the bar, which is absolutely crowded because of how many tables are placed in this tiny area. We had someone steal a chair from our table that someone was using in our party, move it to the table behind us, then sit in it and move our table back about one foot as he sat down. The chair hit our table without as much of a sorry from this person. The (4 person) table behind us at dinner time then proceeded to have about 12 people gather around it and run into our table and chairs without any courtesy as we were trying to eat and drink.
The only people that seem to go to this restaurant are the entitled feeling residents of Rogers that have little care for anyone but themselves. The staff here seem untrained and have little knowledge of what they are doing.
The food seems decent, at best. Instant Mashed potatoes and frozen vegetables. The meats were drenched in sauce in an attempt to add some sort of flavor to them.
Like I said before , I have never felt less respected at a restaurant than here. Please do not go here until management and service gets better. Even then It may not be a good idea to visit this restaurant as there are many other better places to visit in the...
Read moreWhen I entered the restaurant, I could hear a very soft back ground music. The light is not very shine and the mood is comfortable and made people want to eat. No matter where I sit, I can always see the television screen and each television has different channel on it. The tables there have different height and it can satisfied every guest. There are some old souvenir hang on the wall, like some old photos, car license, car steering... The restroom is very clean and has no awful smell, the light in the restroom is also very comfortable.
when we entered the restaurant, he came to us directly. He asked us whether we want to sit at the bar or table. We said we want to sit at a table, then he let to us. At first, he let us to sit near the window, then we said we want to watch the television, then he changed the seat for us near the television. He said let us wait for a while and then he will ask a waiter to serve us. He wore the uniform but without a name card. His uniform was very clean and tidy, the color fit the environment very well. During his talking, he smiles all the time.
Danielle is a very outgoing person. After we seated, she came too us less than a minutes. First she asked us what do we want to drink and showed the drinks menu for us. After a while, she came to asked us whether we are ready for ordering and she recommended the special dish for today. When she saw we ordered a salad she told us that the special dish already contain a salad so we didn't need to order it twice. She really thought for us. When we finished eat the dish, we asked her do you have any suggestion for the dessert. At first we wanted to order a cheesecake but she said brownie is better because it is big both of us and it also has ice cream with it. Brownie was very delicious and we are very satisfied. She has a lot of eye contact during her talk. After the payment, she really thanked for us to come and hope we will come again.
After we ate the main dish, she came to remove our dish quickly and asked us do we need more water. She also gave us spoon for our dessert.
The exterior environment of the restaurant is very impressive. The service there is very friendly and patient. The only problem is that the restaurant is a little bit far away from the city and the dish is a little bit salty. The dessert Brownie is over sweet and it makes us to keep drinking water. There are no picture on the menu if they could add some dishes' picture on it will be much more better for me to order food. The kitchen is in a closed space so we can't see how they made our food. There are no name tag on the waiters uniform and they can't use apple pay to pay...
Read moreMyself and a friend decided to go to Clives after looking up local Fish Fries on line in the Rogers area.
We arrived about 5PM, I went in and asked how long of a wait for 2? she asked if we had reservations I said no. She then explained they seat only reservations 1st BUT it would be about a 30-45 minute wait. That I will get a text saying its a one hour and thirty minute wait, we should ignore that. They will text us when the table is ready.
I said perfect, we need to drop of some groceries in St Michael we will just return, so we returned at 5:35 we decided to go inside and wait.
We went inside and I said we were on standby for a table, she explained were not allowed to wait inside unless we have reservations? I said ok but our table should be ready in a few since its about 45 Minutes
THE SAME GIRL that told me 30-45 min then said with a tone "we are not allowed to tell you how long you will wait as we sit ONLY reservations 1st. I said I understood that BUT you told me before ignore the text it would be 30-45 Minutes.
So we decided to wait outside, at 6:05PM (over an hour waiting) while in car we called Clives to ask again and explained we are on the wait list, she said "We are not allowed to tell you how long the wait is, we ONLY seat reservations 1st"
At this point we left to get food elsewhere, at 7:01 exactly 2 hours I get a text while eating saying our table was ready, if we didnt want the table to text back "9" to be removed from wait list.
I of course ignored the text, so lets explain why Clives could be better:
Dont lie to clients and tell them it will be 30-45 Minutes and to "ignore the text"
Dont tell the clients 30-45 minutes to only be rude to them when we ask an hour into wait.
Dont make stupid rules of telling your staff to tell clients "we are not allowed to tell you a wait time" If we had known it would have been a 2 hour wait we would of been able to have dinner somewhere else at 5 rather then wait.
Both times I was in the Restaurant there we at least 5 tables open, and more people leaving them going in.
It is an Epic fail on Clives part to not seat paying customers, and treat them like would be paying customers.
Maybe they are doing so great they dont need the money? We ended up having a great dinner, and in the end I was happy NOT to spend money on poor service...
