Decent diner food when on the road. There aren't a lot of choices on this stretch of i40, and this offered something better than McDonalds or Popeyes. While the food was good and portions huge and prices are cheap--the service left something to be desired.
The odes to Pretty Boy Floyd, the 1930s gangster, a local boy apparently, were interesting decor.
The service: The waitress was very curt with us, not friendly. I very clearly ordered the "Country Breakfast" which has 2 eggs, a side of ham, and hash browns and biscuit or pancake. What was brought out was the "Country Ham" breakfast, which is not what I ordered. Two different things. She didn't listen. The Country Ham breakfast is a monster ham steak that could feed 4 people. I saw the size noted on the menu and did not order that. When the wrong order came I told the lady that was not mine, and our waitress curtly blew me off, insisted it was right, and rudely refused to acknowledge I order Country Breakfast, not Country Ham. I said nothing further. Ate what I could, my husband helped. We still left behind half a ham steak. Ehat pisses me off is how rude the waitress, whose name starts eith an "A", was. How dismissive she was. How unfriendly and unhelpful. And how she was absolutely not going to tske responsibility for messing up the order with her inattentiveness in the first place.
I left rather disgusted with the service.
Be forewarned, and have the waitress repeat your order...
Read moreVisiting relatives in Roland, they recommended this place. We had two sandwiches, a breakfast meal, fried chicken platter and a ground sirloin steak platter. Tracey waited on us. All the meals were great, no complaints at all about them. If you order the chicken, note that it takes about 30 minutes to cook.
The bulldog had two large patties with a chunk of bacon between them. There is a slice of swiss and a slice of American on it, along with lettuce tomato and onion with thousands island dressing. Served with a cheesestick on top. The wolverine is on Texas toast and has a fried cheesestick and a jalapeno popper on it. The chicken was perfectly fried, with crisp skin and juicy meat. Pancake platter was very good as well. The sirloin steak was good.
The only disappointment was the pies, we bought two pumpkin slices, two chocolates, and a coconut cream. The pumpkin was old, the filling had started to separate. The other pies were average.
Overall fine food at a diner....
Read moreI ordered the $13 ny steak and shrimp. Terrible!! First if that was a New York it was the thinnest cut I have ever seen. I asked for med rare and was giving extremely well done. Either it was old or the chef didn’t know. But how would you ever cook that thin of steak med rare. Not possible. Second. I asked for seared shrimp. I got nasty battered and fried. And it was like rubber. Either old or overcooked. Third. The fries tasted like everything had been fried in the same old oil. Burnt and dirty. Fourth. The waitress gave me my water straight out of the tap. Not even filtered. But then she never once came back to refill thru the 45 mins I was there. Maybe I should have not expected much from an interstate diner but it was called 4 star. Would not even let my dogs have there food. I could have had better food from taco hell. (Taco Bell). Do not waste your money at this restaurant. And to the restaurant...sorry for the bad review but either close down or step...
