I use to eat here all the time before they went downhill. The food was always amazing and the staff has always been friendly but it all changed throughout the years. Now, the tacos have little to no meat, the dinner plates (when taken to go) always have the rice and beans all over the place and mixed with the food, and the tampiqueña is more fat than it is steak. And that’s that everything is now extremely overpriced! I stopped eating here because the price of the food has become outrageous for the quantity being sold. The food is still very delicious nonetheless but I can go get authentic Mexican food elsewhere for my real money’s worth. The tampiqueña use to be $17 and now it is $24. $27.50 with taxes and it is just not worth it. Nearly $30 for a small thin steak that is more fat than steak? Absolutely not. The tacos have increased in price too and now have a lot less meat in them than before. I use to the know the staff pretty well and they knew me; they were very kind and very friendly. I use to come around during their busy hours and they were always kind and courteous no matter what. Always trying to get orders in and out in an orderly and efficient manner. They use to have 5 star customer service. Despite getting my order wrong a few times I never minded and understood being packed busy can really take a toll. But now the new workers I have came across aren’t as friendly and just seem miserable to be there. I call to place an order and the phone doesn’t even ring and doesn’t let the call go through. And once it does several attempts later I’m put on hold for nearly ten minutes before an employee answers quickly just trying to get my order through. Which I understand. If they’re busy they want to move quickly but that’s when they mess up my order and miss a few items. I have to continuously repeat myself and I know it’s frustrating on both ends as it becomes stressful to them and I’m upset on always getting a wrong order. But the staff truly needs more patience. Better to take your time doing something right than to quickly rush to get it out of the way only to have to do it all over again. I cannot give my money to an establishment with poor service and small serving sizes for an exuberant amount of money. It has truly gone downhill since they...
Read moreBefore the pandemic, I used to come here All. The. Time. That said, today's experience has been the worst. I get that they're low staffed and are looking to hire others, but at the time that I had showed up, it wasn't yet busy. Because of the mask mandate being back, I showed up to place my order to dine-in with a mask on. I requested the fish tacos (comes with 2) and a regular chicken taco. He asked if I wanted onion and cilantro and I said yes. When my food arrived, I ended up with a fajita chicken taco (which is at least a dollar more). I was surprised because I had requested the regular. When I told him this, he said that I had said I wanted a fajita chicken taco. Clearly he misunderstood me; somehow hearing fajita instead of regular. What upset me more is the fact that he came off like he had been arguing with me like he knew what I said when I knew what came out of my mouth.
Upon hearing it was wrong, he said, "It's ok, I'll fix it." To which he asks if I want onion and cilantro. I said "yes, regular." Regular to confirm that he wasn't going to give me back the chicken fajita taco again and with onion and cilantro instead. He comes back with a taco filled with tomato, lettuce and cheese and when I told him I wanted onion and cilantro, he says, "You said regular." I said, "You asked if I wanted onion and cilantro and I said Yes." So he rolls his eyes... as though the miscommunication was entirely MY fault. All this after I had previously tipped 20% on the bill in advance. He probably still doesn't see how he was in the wrong. Because of this experience, I have no problems not visiting this restaurant again. Not sure I'd even bother with new employees because that guy has been there forever. I'm just disappointed and feel as though I was treated like I did something wrong. Yes, the check was fixed, yet the response wasn't right from a customer's perspective. Thankfully, plenty of other Mexican joints I can go to that are closer to...
Read moreA little displeased after I just picked up my order. My entire family has been ordering from here since this place opened. I asked for one additional red and green sauce so I could have one each per taco. I know that’s “against policy” and the kid must have been new trying to follow it. I got the salsa but everyone was so freaking hesitant. My lord. But how does that make sense? We’ve probably spent thousands of dollars here. I told them, “I think we’ve made up for it.” As I mentioned…we have ordered FREQUENTLY since they opened. Also they will give you entire BOTTLES of salsa if you eat in, which is kinda difficult since they have limited seating. Make it make sense. -.- thinking my family might be right about just switching over to ta canijo. Cheaper. Meatier. Comes with lime. And they’re not STINGY!!!!
PS. Seems they don’t respond often to reviews?? I read one about trying to pick up an order 3 min late and they wouldn’t give it to her and the owner replied with an aggressive tone like you don’t know how hard it is to run a business with a bunch of grammar/sentence structure mistakes. And they didn’t address what she was saying. They brought up PETS CONTROL SERVICE?!?! ANOTHER REVIEW WITH MOLD ON ELOTE WITH PICS. But there were very few responses in my browsing and they seemed offended any time something was wrong and they DID reply. Unprofessional. Yeah. I’m definitely done here. Everyone should go to Ta Canijo. There was a taco place across from BP like 20 years ago that ran out of business because they started charging for the extra salsa like this place. They were getting rude. I mean cmon. I just asked my dad for an estimate. He was like…yeah we’ve spent at least a couple grand. And then I have employees arguing about a couple extra salsas. You guys can do better. And the owner better not reply saying “bring it up to us directly” because I definitely expressed my concern in...
