I've frequently traveled through DTW airport for business, and Andiamo was one of my favorite spots. It was on they pricey side for dinner but the food was good... This was 2 years ago, and I traveled through again recently. The best way I can describe the current situation (October 2024) is that they are under new management and the prices went up by 25% per item. The quality of food has significantly dropped compared to what it used to be. The pizza used to be thin crust overloaded with toppings. My final visit was with a pizza half normal size, 1/8th the toppings, and more dough than taste... Service and Atmosphere have not changed during this time, but the food is foreign compared to what it used to be.
Also the price increase from great pizza to meh... pizza was about 30%. It's a little sad to let this place go, but maybe this means that I'll find a different gem within the airport.
Recommendations: Old style Andiamo... 8/10 New style Andiamo... 3/10
Service - 8/10 : Never had any complaints with service. It's nothing spectacular but its still great service
Atmosphere - 7/10 : It's a nice place to rest with a couple window seats. You have a bar, or open seating, or pizza oven side seats.
Food - 3/10 : In all fairness, the price of the food heavily impacts the rating for this. The quality was 'ok' for the style... but the quantity and quality was lacking. They went from a thin crust heavy topping pizza to a thick crust (same amount of dough, so the size of the pizza only shrank) and a light sprinkle of toppings for about 25-30% more than the previous year.
Overall: If you only ate the food without paying, you'd say, "Oh ok, that was decent. Little light on the toppings but overall it was made ok", but then you realized you paid $23 for a Target/Pizza Hut sized personal pizza or $21 for a spicy margarita. The only upside to their downsizing was the spicy margarita not having as much 'punch your face' heat as it did before... but I have a bad feeling that it was because the original version was really intense and the owners dialed everything back. General feeling... I won't come back... I liked the food previously, but the new food is more expensive and lower in quality. It is what it is, and I can't change the business... but I would expect a new restaurant to take ownership in a year or two based on the changes I've experienced.
Scroll through the history of pizza in the photos and I'm sure you'll see the change. 'More dough less flavor' is the best way...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience with the male greeter during my visit 10/2/2025 at approximately 2:30p. When I arrived, I inquired about both the wait time and kitchen time. He provided the information, but then proceeded to seat a group of four who arrived after me. Afterward, instead of checking back to seat me, he engaged in small talk with the female greeter.
When I asked about being seated and pointed out that another group was taken ahead of me, his response was that he thought I was still looking at the menu. I clarified that I was ready at no point did I suggest other wise, at which point shrugged, grabbed a menu and, while walking away to seat me, then made an unnecessary and rude comment telling me to “speak up next time!”
This kind of dismissive and unprofessional behavior left a very negative impression, and I was no longer interested in having lunch before my flight.
First impressions matter, and being treated with courtesy and respect at the door is just as important as the food itself. I hope management addresses this issue so other guests don’t encounter the same experience. My coworkers I visit your establishment every month on my business trips.
Point to note I did ask to speak with his supervisor which I did, and explained the situation to her, she was very polite, listened well and apologized on behalf of her direct report.
I hope management uses this an example go coach and develop other young associates on how to deal with scenarios such...
Read moreStopped here in between connecting flights during the brunch/lunch hour. It wasn’t too busy when I arrived. The service was really great and my server was very attentive. The food came out fast, which is great considering most people are on the go or only have a short amount of time.
The food however, was good and tasty but nothing exceptional and worth making a stop at if you’re ever at the McNamara Airport. The food in general was very expensive for the portion of food you get. I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo and added 2 meatballs to my order. The Alfredo was around $37 and the 2 meatballs were $10. In total with a non-alcoholic beverage and tip, my total for dining was $57, the most I’ve probably ever spent on pasta and for food inside an airport in general.
Again, the atmosphere and server were really great and the food was good, however the price made me really heavily consider if the nearby McDonald’s would have just done the same amount of filling at 1/6 of the cost. Was a very expensive dinning experience, but besides the cost it was good! Just be aware of the price before...
