I liked to rate my experiences with brunch restaurants on seven categories: the wait, the service, the food, the quality, the cost, the coffee, and the vibes Neil's restaurant blew me out of the water for what I was expecting. The wait - none at all. Walked and was seated as soon as a staff person came to us. The service - the waitress was pleasant and cheery. She gave us plenty of time to look over the menu while my group was moving slowly and hung over The food - delicious, warm, flavorful, and big portions. Though I will knock them here as they only hot sauce we were offered was Tabasco. The cost - a cup of coffee, a cup of lemonade, and a skillet came out close to $20 and I had enough left overs for breakfast the next day The coffee - if you had told me this was some generic Sysco coffee I would have been shocked because it was actually pretty good. I think it was about $2.50 for a cup. It was hot, but not scalding hot. The vibes - I give them an average score here. It's a dinner that is open from what feels like dawn to dusk, it's sandwiched between two small Midwestern towns, and if you go on a Sunday morning it is packed with families and old people. Nothing crazy, exciting or different here. But it felt safe and clean
Overall id rate it really high, recommend it to anyone I know going through the area, and plan to...
Read moreNot a great fan. +1 for the swedish pancakes and the service... Those looked delish. My brother got them. He loved them. Otherwise, this place would be a 2.
I got a veggie omelet. I think it had American cheese, not cheddar. There was a puddle of orange/yellow liquid at the bottom of the container. Sorry, but American cheese is a cheese food. Not quite the same quality as a nice sharp cheddar in my eyes. However, and here's the major problem, I got my omelet to go. So it came in a styrofoam box. Not a problem. But it came with some very toasty hash browns. Still not a problem. But the hot oil of the hash browns melted the styrofoam. I didn't order a side of melted styrofoam, thank you. Eeesh. That's a problem. They could have put in some parchment paper and solved the whole issue.
If you like American cheese over cheddar in your omelet, then it's a decent place. If you order something to go and don't mind a little plastic in your belly, go for it. As soon as I realized what's up, I tossed the remainder of my hash browns. But how much styrofoam did I eat? Dunno, and I'd rather not have to think about it with my breakfast.
At least they told me that they have absolutely no gluten free options, not even the eggs. I'm guessing that's because of that inexpensive cheese. So my daughter can't go there...
Read moreWe met family here for breakfast and it was a good choice. They set up tables for our larger group and it worked out nicely. We appreciated the flexibility. Even though the parking lot looked busy, there was still plenty of room inside. There were also plenty of parking spots on the other side of the restaurant where they have a second door.
The food came out looking very good and tasted pretty good as well. There wasn't much of a wait for our food even though the place seems to be a popular lunch location. I added pictures of the menu since it has a lot of choices and I know some people - like me - appreciate having an idea of what they might order before getting to the restaurant.
The reason for the missing star in Service was because there didn't seem to be a lot of follow up after the food was dropped off. Could have used water refills or maybe a pitcher for a large group. It also would have been nice if the side plates came out with the main dish. For example, toast with the breakfast plates. Thought it was forgotten about but it eventually made it out.
Not a bad place to stop for a relaxed atmosphere and good food. The place was clean and...
