My wife and I came here for our Anniversary, and it was one of the best meals that we've had in years. We started off with an appetizer of the Baked Provolone with Pita. It was phenomenal. An amazing start to the meal. It's such a simple concept, but it was executed well. Their pita was delicious and the cheese just made it better.
The next course was the soup course. I had the Baked French Onion and my wife had their Creamy Mushroom and Rice soup. The Baked French Onion was very good and I was very satisfied with it. My wife doesn't really like mushrooms but she was going to try the soup anyways. When she tried it, she was amazed at how delicious the soup was. She ate the entire cup of soup except for a few bites that she let me try. It was so creamy and had fantastic flavor. They also brought us a bread basket during the soup course which included a couple of cinnamon rolls and a couple normal rolls. The normal rolls were good, but nothing necessarily special. The cinnamon rolls, however, were very good. They were so good we asked for some to take home at the end of the meal.
Next came the salads. They were a fairly standard mixed green salad with your choice of dressing. They were fine, but nothing particularly special. No complaints about them, but they were definitely the least exciting part of the meal.
Finally, we got our entrees. I ordered the 12 oz Bacon Wrapped Filet with their Sweet Potato Tots and an add-on of 3 fried shrimp. My wife got the 8 oz Filet with a Loaded Baked Potato and she also got the 3 fried shrimp. The steaks were cooked PERFECTLY. I don't know if we've ever had steaks that were cooked as perfectly as these. Even more impressive, the bacon on my Filet was crispy and delicious. The shrimp were amazing. They were huge and super crispy. They had an amazing flavor and are definitely worth getting. The Sweet Potato Tots were fantastic. I was super happy that I decided to order them. I don't know if I can get a different side next time we go because they were so good. My wife really enjoyed her Loaded Baked Potato. She said it was very good.
Service was good the entire night and the restaurant had a very nice atmosphere. It was a perfect anniversary dinner, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice dinner. I can't wait to go back.
One suggestion though is to post a menu online. You could just post a picture of it on your Facebook page. The menus that I found online prior to visiting were outdated and there were some significant changes in what was offered. I was a little disappointed that they no longer have Lamb Chops, but it definitely didn't detract from the...
Read moreDecided to start exploring WI supper clubs and this was our first spot. Atmosphere old fashioned in the best way. Staff very friendly. Served a relish tray as soon as we sat down with radishes, carrots, whole green onions and a dill type dipping sauce.
We did not order any entrees from the main menu and instead went with two specials they had for the the day. We ordered the crap stuffed shrimp and the half duck. All entrees come with soup, salad, bread basket, choice of potato.
We each got the french onion soup and opted for the cheese upgrade. It was very good. Salad came with choice of dressing which is served on top as default so ask for on the side if that is not your style. Very basic side salad you would expect from most places in the midwest. Mostly iceberg with a slice or two of red onion, one cucumber and a tomato thrown on the side.
Bread basket comes with dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls. Dinner rolls were fine, cinnamon rolls tasted a bit stale.
Our entrees were very good. The crab stuffed shrimp was fine, the crab stuffing was delicious but the shrimp was a bit overcooked and chewy. I ordered the au gratin potatoes as my potato choice and was a bit disappointed. Instead of traditional au gratin potatoes, it is more of a hashbrown casserole. Still good just not what I expected.
The half duck special was amazing. Duck was perfectly cooked and had some kind of breading on top that was delicious. The garlic mashed potatoes that came on the side were amazing. Don't know how often they repeat specials, but if the half duck is ever an option, I would highly recommend...
Read moreWell, unfortunately, this review is going to be critical. Be careful entering, there's some surprising angles in the concrete threshold that aren't visible at night. Once in, don't ask to be seated at the entrance because you will literally be seated next to a partial wall that might block some of the cold from rushing in. Not enjoyable. This time we sat in back right off the kitchen entrance. The place is an old house, so there's little areas everywhere. What was annoying was the lights flickering every 5 minutes. I was sure if the place was going to burn down, our if our meal would be finished. On to the meal...who decided frosted breakfast cinnamon rolls from Kwik Star were for dinner??? The other rolls were dry as cardboard. On to dinner. The salad was OK, but brought out with the dinner. I had a taste for pork chops. For $26.00 you expect something more than ⅜" thick, but the price was $32.00. When I asked how it was prepared, our server drew a blank. Even the thought of asking someone else didn't enter her mind. My bad for asking. But yes, it was under ⅜" thick and pan fried, not flame grilled or broiled. The baked potato didn't even melt the butter. The 8 mushrooms were OK, but very small. My desert would have been the key lime cake, but at $9.00/slice, I wasn't going to risk it. I'd pass on the prime rib as well. It looked microwaved, and tasted like it too. No au jus either. As for the hot tea selection, there's only Earl Gray and green tea. All in all, we were disappointed and wouldn't return. We'd suggest the Velvet Buffalo...
