I arrived at 5:09pm and sat at the bar, ordered a beer and asked for a menu. Approx 15 minutes later my girlfriend arrives. We then get to play "catch the bartender's eye" so we can let them know to move our bill to a table for a good 10 minutes. After sitting, it takes another 10 minutes before anybody comes over (at this point there's only 3 other groups in the bar and 1 waitress). After finally getting menus, we peruse, I order a bud lite, she gets something on tap. This takes more time.
After we finally got our food order in (around 6pm), we proceed to wait nearly 40 minutes for our food. I ordered wings (which were supposed to be the special that day at $.50 apiece) and a side of poutine. My gf ordered one of the specials. She got hers before me, so much so that another waitress (apparently the only other one) came to our table and made the comment "you don't have your wings? They should be done by now." By the time my food came out, hers was half gone. And she was intentionally being slow about eating it so we could eat together. When my food DID come out they forgot the dipping sauce. We also got to watch at least 5 other groups sit and receive food before us.
Upon asking to speak with a manager or owner, we were told "the first waitress is the manager". She was not, and told us so herself. We then asked to talk to the owner or literally anybody who can do something better than "nothing". We had found from the second waitress the owner was a man who had been drinking at the bar since I'd walked in almost 2 hours before. Manager-but-actually-not lady tells us the owner isn't there and proceeds to argue with us.
At this point, we're complaining because I'd been charged the full price for the wings and the poutine. We were told the poutine is only a side if you order a sandwich (this isn't anywhere on the menu). We were also told the wings would be full price due to "COVID making things more expensive". Now, I don't have an issue with that, but it was never stated. There is no notice in the menu, the waitress/not-manager didn't say it, there's no sign. Nothing. So I simply want the prices the menu states to be what I'm charged. This was unacceptable. I was told that "we just don't care about people" and "they're doing their best" and "They had 20+ people before covid and now they're down to 5". And you know what? That's totally fine. But that's no excuse for upselling me almost 20 dollars for beyond poor service.
Eventually the owner who wasn't there walks up and also proceeds to argue with us. We tell him our issue. Literally only that we want to be charged what the menu advertised. We get the same rehearsed excuses the not-manager gave us. Essentially tells us "no matter what I say the two of you can't be convinced otherwise." I'm unsure what there was to convince us of. A simple apology for worse service than Applebees on $1 rail margarita night and CHARGING WHAT THE MENU STATES and we'd have paid and been totally fine with it. Honestly, would have earned my respect for admitting a mistake.
Instead, one of the locals threatened me. At this point the owner told us to leave and we did.
Now, I'm not a person to complain. Rarely do I bother to take the time to leave a review, regardless of the level of service good or bad. But this was, without a doubt, the absolute WORST dining experience I've ever had.
I can only recommend Poison Ivy Pub to you if you have nothing to for at least 3 hours and feel like spending part of your night being told that the menu with explicit pricing is wrong and fed excuses about why you don't have food instead of food. Otherwise, there's a McDonald's up the road that's good about keeping the...
Read moreWe asked to be seated outside and were sat at a high top (of which all 4 were open) directly next to an intoxicated man and his friend at the bar. I asked to move away, which was fine by the hostess but the spot we were moved to is apparently the corner where people come to smoke. Fine, ok, it's a bar. We were brought waters and a menu. The intoxicated man became increasingly loud and agitated. The waitress (15 minutes after bringing waters) comes back and I indicated my discomfort. We were told he was being asked to leave. But then he went inside and had another beer while "the bartender can keep an eye on him" (direct quote from the waitress). We were also told that there was a 45 minute wait on food items but that an appetizer would come out faster. Sure, awesome. We ordered some beers, an appetizer, food and then settled in to wait. This was at 8... We had gotten there at 7:40. By 8:30 there was no food, no refills on water, no offers to order more drinks. 8:40 someone came over to check on us. We asked about water and food, and we were given water. 8:50 the appetizer comes out. We are told that the entree is "timed to come out 15 minutes after an appetizer". So... We could've been eating dinner already? Dinner comes out after 9 and it was actually very tasty. Then they turned the outside speakers on. We were the only people in the outside bar area at this point. Couldn't hear each other talk. So we asked for boxes, took our food, and went home. No one apologized, no one asked why we were leaving 10 minutes after finally receiving our food. Maybe service would have been better inside? The food was amazing. Everything else was a...
Read moreTonight was my first visit to Poison Ivy. And it will be my only visit. It was pretty busy when we came in, the waitress who sat us and the gentleman that waited on us were very friendly as was Ashley. It took along time for our food which the owner did come over and apologize for. But what surprised me was how hard the staff was working and that the owner was sitting drinking a shot and "hanging out with some customers in a booth close to us. After finally getting our food and I must say not all at the same time. The owner did say that a new employee had walked out leaving g t he kitchen help obviously short handed. One of our friends didn't like what was ordered and sent it back. When we were ready to leave and received our checks, including our friend who sent his back. Our friend asked about why he had a bill since he had sent his back? The waiter went and got another waitress who came over and asked what was wrong with his dinner. When he told her the sauce was to sweet , she responded by saying " it's an old family recipe and everyone likes it" well he didn't. He paid his bill and won't be back. After the waitress spoke with our friend she then went over and spoke with the owner, about our table and our friend. Seriously. Very unprofessional. What happened to customer service, taking care of the customer and when the dinner is taking a long time. Hey how about offering them a free appetizer, maybe free drinks. We won't be back and when asked about Poison Ivy be rest assured I'll tell of...
