Had the pleasure of stopping into Iorio Deli with friends Eric from Cultinary Road Trip and Tyler from Foodula. Had the chance to meet “The Boss” Gilda and her son Joe as well as the rest of the very friendly and helpful staff here. We tried a plethora of things so this may take a minute haha.
Started off with two stuffed breads - A Reuben as well as a Pepperoni roll. The Reuben had a great flavor and the bread itself was tasty. It was slightly odd in my mind to eat a Reuben without grilled rye, but I enjoyed this. The pepperoni stuffed bread was also good and was even better with the addition of some sauce (they called it gravy and I thought I was in trouble haha).
After that we were hit with some delicious Italian items including their house made meatballs, Italian sausage and peppers, and chicken Parmesan. The meatballs were just rated #1 in Central Jersey and #2 in the entire state of NJ at the Pizza Bowl a few months back. I could see why. Very tender, perfectly seasoned, and again that sauce/gravy was killer. To be honest though, I may have enjoyed the sausage even more! I mentioned how I didn’t get hit with that typical overwhelming pop from fennel seed and Joe said they make it with ground fennel so the flavor is still there but it’s not so in your face. I loved, and I mean loved, this sausage. The chicken parm was also very good but I had a small piece because I knew what was coming next!
We finished off by trying two sandwiches that Iorio is well known for. The first was “The Jocelyn” which was a roast beef and Swiss melt on an onion roll, and the second was “The Sloppiest Joe” which was a North NJ staple “sloppy joe” but in epic proportions. The Jocelyn had good flavor and the onion roll was a nice touch and change of pace. The sloppiest Joe is sitting inside the top 3 I’ve had probably ever. The meats were freshly sliced and piled high, the rye was super fresh, and the Cole slaw had get flavor and added welcomed creaminess to the sandwich.

Read moreTHIS! THIS is how it’s done. We are LOSING places like this to the horrible economy and chain garbage food spots. It’s very hard to get a good hero in this area and this place makes one of the best I’ve ever had and more! Do NOT skip it if you want a great sandwich or some excellent hot food. The owner is a sweet lady who will make you see her place if you come by. The owners son is a great guy who will greet you like you’re a regular (you’ll become one after the first bite) and accommodate any request. Great food, great prices, great staff. Keep this place alive!!!
P.S. I really should have taken the photo of the Italian hero before I destroyed it!
6-10-24 update: I have included a photo, PRE-DESTRUCTION, of the Big Al. THIS is what you get for $13. That’s THIRTEEN dollars.

The rating stays because this place is great, but what a shame. Called at 1:40 today for four sandwiches and could tell the guy just didn’t want to make them. The call started with “we close at 2”. I told him I’m 10 minutes away and calling so he’s not making them last minute. Once I got to sandwich number 3, he told me that I was pushing it and did I really expect 4 sandwiches in 20 minutes. I told him I’d come back another day. Honestly, I...
Read moreStumbled upon this awesome location around March of this year 2022 simply talking a detour off the main ave to explore Roselle on my way to work.. So glad I did... It's been my go to ever since.
Joe, Gilda (the Boss), & Chris are rockstars. Everyone makes you feel right at home. They've got a great menu, awesome daily hot & cold eats, and phenomenal service.
I highly recommend:
A Large "Big Al's" w/ Hot Peppers & Oil Viniger, if the cowslaw is in sight make sure to grab a side aswell as that stuff goes fast and it's damn good!
Chris usually takes my order, engineering this master sub to perfection every time. My work dinner is best part of my shift. Hands down, one of the best sandwiches I've had in Jersey thusfar, made by the kindest human beings...
