I've been coming to the Sun tavern for many years, enjoyably so. This was my first visit post pandemic. Let me state that I stopped in for a late lunch in between appointments while working so I was in a bit of a rush which undoubtedly affected my experience. I sat at the bar and got a drink and the menu. It was 15 minutes before I was asked what I wanted to order and that was only after I flagged down the bartender. When my food came out a server brought it to me without a fork or napkins so I was not able to start eating. Another 5 minutes went by before I was able to get those items. At the point when the food came out knowing I was in a rush I also asked for my check which I did not get until I asked again after I was done eating. That took another 5 minutes. As I typically do, appreciating the efforts of the people in the service industry, especially in today's world where most places are understaffed, I left a generous tip. The bar area and the restaurant was not busy at all. This was around 5:30 on a Thursday afternoon. I will say that the food was delicious. And this below average experience will not keep me from coming back. I just need to be mindful not to put myself in the same position for it to...
Read moreI rarely write reviews, but this place was so bad I felt the need to warn others. The entire place is outdated, with mold on the ceiling and an energy that’s just off. It feels like the kind of place you’d go when you’re hungover and just need something to eat—barely. It’s clear the place hasn’t been modernized or properly maintained in years. The atmosphere is depressing, and I honestly felt like I needed to be disinfected after walking in.
We ordered sodas, and they came out flat and tasted like the soda machine hadn’t been cleaned in ages. The cups were gross too, just awful. Then we ordered food, and after waiting a long time, one of our sandwiches came out with eggplant on it that looked shriveled, old, and green—definitely not fresh. We politely sent it back, but the staff seemed offended. Things didn’t improve when the buffalo pizza came out. It was the worst pizza I’ve ever had. Thin, soggy, and tasted like it had been in the freezer for years—freezer burn, defrosted, and probably microwaved. Honestly, frozen pizza from the dollar store tastes better.
This place is a disaster. Overpriced, terrible food, and a filthy atmosphere. I will never return, and I strongly suggest you avoid this place...
Read moreThis had been a regular go-to place for me back in the day, but since relocating, haven’t been able to come back. Till just last week when I was back in the area.
The Sun Tavern has always been known for its convivial atmosphere and its great eclectic pizzas. They had a very nice outdoor area set up, which is where I was seated. It took quite some time for my server to come around and take my drink order, and the beer list was not as extensive as I remembered. My server was very nice, but I didn’t see her all that much as the outdoor area seemed to be a bit understaffed, in contrast to the indoor bar area.
I ordered the shrimp scampi pizza, which was an old favorite, and it was every bit as terrific as I remembered. It may sound like a weird combo, but it works.
I left there very contented and will look forward to coming back whenever...
