The food was good. My chicken was a little bland, but otherwise, we all liked the flavors. For someone who normally doesn't like salad, I really enjoyed the taste of the small side salad and the dressing they use. However, we were highly dissatisfied with the poor customer service we received. For starters, when the server came out, she didn't even say anything at all to us. She just grabbed our menus and utensil sets and waved us to follow her. She then sat us right next to another booth where there was a party of four. We asked to sit somewhere else closer to the windows instead of right next to this booth. We had our baby with us, so we wanted to be mindful of them since he could get pretty loud. Also, he seems to be more relaxed next to windows where he can see outside. The server told us no that we could not sit over there because she wanted the convenience for herself to have the two tables she was serving right next to each other. My husband was really upset about this. Then, she asked what drinks we'd like. I asked for horchata, and she said in a smug tone, "We don't serve fresh water here." No apology or explanation as to why I am seeing it on their menu but being told they don't serve it. Strike two. Then, my 13 year old wanted enchiladas like the ones in the picture but with chicken. I asked her for chicken enchiladas with the same green sauce since I am not familiar with the menu. She said they don't serve any enchiladas with that green sauce other than the spinach ones. That's why it shows that in the picture because those are the only green enchiladas they have. I was like, so we can't just order chicken enchiladas but ask for the green sauce instead. She said, "No, but I can order them without sauce for you. You're welcome to walk over to the salsa bar and pour it on yourself, though." I was taken aback. We work in the food industry, and I was just so upset at how little this server was willing to do to make our experience a good one. We won't return, thanks to her. We immediately regretted leaving her that three dollar tip after we saw her sit a two party group at the table we had asked to be sat in as well a couple out on the patio. We feel that we afforded the same courtesy, but I suppose that's not the case for OUR family at Papa's & Beer. Customer service like this leaves no question as to why there were only four tables in use at 12...
Read moreWe tried this restaurant with high hopes. We love to support our local businesses. We also thoroughly realize the difficulties faced by businesses today. That said, unfortunately our first impression is extremely mixed. The food is decent - not really better or worse than the many other mexican restaurants in the area. The decor is fun, and it’s nice to see the space occupied again and filled with families. Our server, despite having only been recently employed by the restaurant, was attentive, helpful and polite. So, here’s the “howevers.”: They charge extra for using a C card. Then, there was another $2.00 charge on our bill no one could explain. (We were told “the computer just does that.”) It gets better: Two of us ordered 3 LARGE margaritas. There was no discernible level of tequila in the drinks. A tequila hater tried one and agreed. When we politely mentioned it to the manager, he basically said that we must be professional drinkers if we felt no affects. (!) I also ordered a drink, and it was mostly ice. We had identified a DD in our party, but it was not necessary in the least for the person who consumed two margaritas.
But the best part came when I showed him the label (see pic) still affixed to a pepper slice on my plate. He laughed and walked away! So, we were insulted and ignored. Promise, at NO point were we confrontational. This was a nice family dinner that we wanted to stay fun, so we really just laughed it off . But at a time when everything is so expensive and stressful, experiences like this will drive customers right back home, where the food is cheaper and the pours are guaranteed. It would have cost 50 cents to provide a couple of shots. It would have cost nothing to apologize for a paper label being in a customer’s food. Either would have prevented this poor review. Everyone makes mistakes - it’s how you handle them that matters. If this restaurant is leaving labels on the vegetables and they literally don’t show any level of concern, well, one is left to wonder what else they laugh off as they...
Read moreUpdated review as of 4-5-2025. Tried the "New" I Taquero Mucho and what a pleasant experience compared to the previous restaurant. Not sure if it's new management, but the food and service were leaps & bounds better than my prior experience here a few years ago. The California burrito was excellent. I love the salsa bar. We also ordered the enchiladas which were delicious. My only complaint, albeit a minor one, is the cheese enchiladas were cold. Probably needed a minute or two longer in the over. Will definitely go back.
Having lived in the area for 20 years and seen too many restaurants occupy this space in Sweet Apple Village - plus being vacant - we had high expectations that Papas could bring a quality restaurant to the area. We visited the restaurant at 5:30 on a Saturday. The decor inside brings a great Mexican spirit and vibe - wonderful colors throughout the restaurant. We were seated promptly and our waiter quickly greeted himself. We ordered a pitcher of the house margarita as we combed the expansive menu. The complimentary chips and bean dip was good, and I personally like the complimentary salsa bar. Unfortunately that's where the positives end. The meals were average - the queso cheese on the nachos was cold. While the steak on the tostada was tasty, everything else lacked flavor. We waited over 20 minutes for the margaritas; in fact, our meals arrived before the margaritas, and on top of that, the margaritas were horrible. Couldn't taste any tequila. Drank 3 sips and that was it. While I completely understand it was 5:30 on a Saturday, the place was very loud. Lots of kids ages 5-8 running around, standing on booths, and screaming. They have TVs throughout the restaurant, but play Hispanic music videos. Papas & Beer is not a restaurant I'll be...
