The food was fine & the service OK. I guess it does matter time of your visit & where you sit in the restaurant. I typically dine alone & often will request to sit at the bar esp if it’s busy. It was fairly busy & I requested the counter & they sat me at the very end of the counter. This is the corner where servers put together napkins/silverware & get coffee. It was evident they were doing this as they had to clear away some of this. I sat there a good 7-8 minutes or more & no one said anything to me. The servers were indeed busy & running past me; there was a young lady who had been standing virtually right in front me putting together silverware. I had arrived & she another assistant manager were making NYE plans but didn’t ask my drink order. Finally one of the servers stopped and asked if I had been served & asked my drink order. I said coffee and ice water; he thought I said coffee & hot water tho I said it twice. The lady putting together placements handed me a to go ice water that had been sitting there a bit (I saw them clear it when I sat down). It wasn’t fresh & not in a glass but in a plastic cup. So be it - it was something. She brought a coffee but by this time there were several (at least 3-4) servers there talking & trying to decide who would wait on me. I could hear all they were saying. Finally the young lady putting together placements - who was very nice - took my order. She placed my order and another 15-20 min passed & nothing. Yet another lady - likely an assistant manager (and a different assistant manager who initially saw me & didn’t ask my drink order) was there in front of me doing something & chatting w/all the other customers at the counter. One lady came in after me and placed a to go order & left by the time I had my order. Not a big deal. Finally the assistant manager caught my eye as I had been keeping busy on my phone. Did you order? I said I had. What did you order? The Perfect Combo (ironic given the service). She went over to ask about my order. The cooks - who were also incredibly busy - said from behind the window they had my order & it would be ready in another minute. About 5-7 more minutes it did come; the chief cook did apologize from behind the window. Appreciation to the assistant manager & cook for that. The food, once I got it, was fine. Another gentleman came in after me and sat near me at the counter & within seconds they asked his drink order (by the assistant manager who had initially ignored me when I came in & making evening NYE plans). In spite of the service issues - I didn’t complain or get angry, I was very chill about it because I’ve been in service positions - I would come back because the food was good. I just wouldn’t sit at the counter. My main server - she finally took initiative to take my order - was terrific - except she gave me an ice water that wasn’t fresh & in a to go cup (and honestly it could’ve been drank out of but I didn’t put up a fuss about it) that had been sitting there awhile. The servers should know that conversations can be heard by customers; I heard all conversations - some of which weren’t pleasant but I get it as I’ve worked in service before. The most baffling is that it took 3-4 of them to decide who would wait on me, and I was ignored by one of the assistant managers making NYE plans but who would rush to take another customer’s drink order. All to say, food was good, I’ll be back in spite of service but I won’t sit at...
Read moreFirst time ordering from here. New to the area and saw great reviews. Decided to an order pickup because I knew Sundays would be busy and I wanted to enjoy my meal at home. Walking in, the place is very nice and well lit. I was impressed by how modern it was because outside it looks small. However on the inside, there was enough space for people to sit and enjoy their meals without it feeling congested. I was greeted and directed to another counter to pick up my order. This is when my first time went south.
I stood there waiting for someone to assist me for about 7 minutes or so. Mind you, they were busy but I was expecting someone to be at the counter since the initial host directed me there. The host approached and apologized for the delay. I shared with him that I had an order to pick up and gave him my name. He repeated it back to me and handed me my order. I noticed I was missing items and informed him. He told me “oh, you have the wrong order.” I get it, we are all human but if I tell you my name and you say it back, review the orders at the counter, and then hand me the wrong order… did you actually look at the bag? So I get my correct order and it has my name on it. He apologizes again. I understand because it’s busy and he may have been feeling overwhelmed. I ask the host if I can check my order before leaving. (I’m familiar with food service and hospitality so I make it a habit to check my food before departing because some kitchens will not make changes or fix dishes if you leave.)
He seemed offended that I asked him and initially told me that I couldn’t check my food because there was no space. Weird, but okay. I asked him again because I didn’t want to get home and the food wasn’t correct. He finally obliged to my request. I scooted over to the bar area and pulled the food out. Honestly… the dishes are underwhelming, but this isn’t a gourmet restaurant so if you’re looking for that, don’t come here. The food looked tasty and something you could probably make at home. I ordered different dishes to try, one of them being the corned beef hash. I opened the container and it was burnt all over. I was surprised and concerned all at once. I asked the host if the item was supposed to look like that. He responded, “I don’t know. What is it supposed to look like?” Now I’m irritated because how do you not know what dishes are supposed to look like at the restaurant you work at? Maybe I’m being a bit rude or picky, I’m sorry. I just thought hosts/servers/kitchen staff are aware of what dishes are supposed to be and how they are served.
I was going to ask for a refund for my entire order and go somewhere else until a very kind gentleman in the kitchen intervened. He truly made my experience better. He asked what was wrong and saw the food, and fixed it immediately. I did have to wait another 10 minutes but I didn’t mind because he was so proactive and he saw my disappointment.
Overall my experience wasn’t good but I appreciate the efforts made to...
Read moreWe recently visited Home Kitchen, a cozy breakfast spot that opened just three months ago in Round Rock, Texas. Having heard good things, we were excited to give it a try—and it did not disappoint!
First Impressions
The exterior of the restaurant was inviting, with clear signage and a charming vibe that hinted at the experience to come. Inside, the ambiance was warm and welcoming, with a modern yet cozy aesthetic. The seating was comfortable, and the layout made it easy to enjoy a peaceful meal without feeling cramped.
Service & Atmosphere
Our server, Angel, was absolutely wonderful. Attentive and friendly, Angel made sure we felt at home right away and was happy to answer any questions we had about the menu. The overall atmosphere struck a perfect balance between lively and relaxed, making Home Kitchen an ideal spot for breakfast or brunch.
The Food
Now, onto the real star of the visit: the food! We ordered three dishes to share: • Farmer’s Skillet This dish was the standout of the meal! Packed with hearty ingredients, it was flavorful and perfectly cooked. I’d highly recommend ordering it with over-easy eggs, but of course, you’re welcome to choose your preferred style. The combination of fresh vegetables, potatoes, and savory flavors made every bite satisfying. • American Croissant French Toast This was indulgent and absolutely delicious. The portion size was generous, easily big enough for two to share, which made it an excellent choice for splitting alongside the other dishes. The croissant added a unique, flaky twist to classic French toast, and the sweetness was just right without being overwhelming. • Eggs Benedict Another great choice, with perfectly poached eggs and a creamy hollandaise sauce that tied the dish together beautifully. The balance of flavors and the freshness of the ingredients were spot-on.
The total cost for our meal came to $54.61 before tip, which we felt was reasonable given the quality of the food and the portions.
Final Thoughts
Everything we ordered was delicious, and we’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu. If you’re visiting Home Kitchen, I highly recommend trying the Farmer’s Skillet (over-easy eggs are a great choice!) and sharing the French toast with a friend or partner. Whether you’re in the mood for a casual breakfast or a leisurely brunch, Home Kitchen delivers on both taste and atmosphere.
Don’t forget to check out my photos to get a better sense of the dishes and the restaurant’s vibe.
Highly recommend!
