I was driving through Georgetown area and encoded to stop here 11/2/24. My friends and I order our boba drink and when I was placing mine, I ordered a honeydew milk tea with lychee. I canât have gelatin so my friend asked the girl taking my order if the lychee jellies had gelatin and both girls making the drinks and handling the register confirmed. The girl making the drinks was petite, light brown and short hair with pink streaks and square glasses. So I told the other girl, Asian girl with black hair and glasses, if she could replace the lychee with regular boba as I canât have gelatin and she kindly confirmed with me. I got my drink and it had lychee jelly. It was busy so I understood and asked them to remake my drink. The girl with pink shrinks just stared at me as I was explaining the error and said nothing. The girl with black hair came and apologized and remade my drink. I got my drink a second time and drank from it on my way out and I tasted the lychee jelly. I looked and my drink had both pearls and jelly in it. I went back again and let them know. The girl with pink streaks was glaring at me, refused to take the drink and was staring at me in absolute silence. The other girl apologized, took my drink and said âI will just remake it this time.â Wasnât she supposed to have remade it the first time? But it gets worse. The girl with brown hair mumbled something to her and the girl grabbed my drink and put it through a strainer in the sink and began handpicking the lychee jellies. She was handling the register, hadnât washed her hands, and the boba was already cross-contaminated. She was preparing to make me a drink from the same batch of boba. That was all I needed to see and I left because that was disgusting. I have no idea what pink streaks had against me but she was absolutely disrespectful and unprofessional. I understand both girls are young but this is ghastly. I would be seriously concerned coming here if you have any kind of allergy. Please retrain your employees and protect yourself from future lawsuits. Thanks. FYI- I called to speak you the manager and never got...
Read moreAs an Asian family with a deep appreciation for authentic Vietnamese cuisine, we had high hopes for TruBoba in Round Rock. Unfortunately, our experience was nothing short of disappointing. Having tried countless bånh mÏ sandwiches over the years, we can confidently say that what we were served did not come close to the real thing.
The bread, a crucial component of any bĂĄnh mĂŹ, was not up to standardâit lacked the light, airy crunch we expect and was more akin to a generic sandwich roll. The meat itself was flavorless, and there was no trace of the fish sauce that should have added depth to the flavor. The use of regular mayo instead of pâtĂŠ was another misstep, stripping away the richness and complexity that makes a bĂĄnh mĂŹ truly special.
Moreover, the vegetables were skimpy and poorly prepared. The carrots were grated instead of thinly sliced, and worse yet, they werenât pickled. The lack of pickling made the sandwich taste flat, as the tangy contrast of pickled vegetables is key to balancing the other ingredients.
Itâs clear that this bĂĄnh mĂŹ is catered more toward the Western palate than those seeking an authentic Vietnamese experience. This is especially disappointing because we live in Round Rock, but have to drive all the way to Austin for real bĂĄnh mĂŹ, whether at Baguette House or Tam Deli.
To add insult to injury, we also tried the Vietnamese iced coffee, which was another letdown. As a cafĂŠ that claims to serve Vietnamese food, the coffee was weak and lacked the rich, bold flavor one would expect. The condensed milk was barely noticeable, which is not how it should be.
In short, this was our first and last visit to TruBoba. It's unfortunate that, in a place where Vietnamese food is celebrated, the flavors fell so far short of authenticity. Weâll be sticking to the tried-and-true spots in Austin, where we know weâll get...
