I typically post positive reviews, but I felt the need to make an exception in this case. My wife and I live within walking distance of Asadero House, and we were excited about trying it out.
Atmosphere: UGH! I don't know where to begin. We sat in the bar area, and wow. I guess I should start with the fact that they had the volume up on the TV (rodeo?) while AT THE SAME TIME Hispanic music was playing over the speakers. REALLY? How about one OR the other (preferably music.) This was the first red flag, as I knew attention to detail was going to be an issue. As for decor, it looked like a bunch of cheap, disparate objects were flung around the area to give it some sort of Mexican vibe. Blandly colored pictures were crooked, shelves were strewn with items that looked out of place, and the place was intensely lit with bright white LED bulbs; there was zero ambiance. Personally, I'll frequent a place with decent food and service if I like the atmosphere - but Asadero's was severely lacking in this area.
When it began to get busy, in marches the Mariachi band. While the band was really good, it was too much for such a small, crowded area. I was thinking they'd play a song and move on so we could talk, but they never left! Like I mentioned they band/singers were very talented, but it was just too much.
SERVICE: The servers were polite. As it grew more crowded, however, they pretty much disappeared. We sat for more than an hour without drinks/food, so we finally just decided to pay our tab (which they could not find) and go.
Constructive criticism, because I'd like them to do well: pare down the menu! While an extensive selection is fine, it takes multiple, highly trained waitstaff to execute the orders. And they couldn't. When we first arrived and it wasn't too busy, we ordered pretty standard drinks - and I was a bit concerned over how long it took for them to be made. I had a sneaking suspicion that as the night grew long, keeping up was going to be a problem - and, obviously, it was. I've been to many well run, well established restaurants that had half the menu of Asadero, and I think this strategy would serve them well. Either that, or hire more employees that can handle the workload.
FOOD: We only had chips, salsa, and queso, and they were all pretty good. The salsa was just okay, but even okay salsa will do when the chips are good (which they were.) There was no authenticity to the salsa, as it was obviously from a mass-produced brand. Personally, I think salsa (which is a staple that somewhat defines a Mexican food restaurant) should be memorably good - and theirs isn't. The queso was thin, but that's the way we like it - it had a good flavor and we would order it again.
As for dinner menu items, we never got the chance to order anything - I wish I could comment further on quality of food but, sadly, we can't.
DRINKS: All four of us thought the drinks were good; the only problem was getting them. Three hours in the bar and we only had two rounds.
It looks to me that Asaderos was rushed into service. Little attention was made for ambiance, and service was overwhelmed. Hopefully they'll address some of these issues. Many comments have been made about the quality of the food, which is promising. My only hope is that the proprietors understand the need to pay strict attention to detail. Most people don't like brightly lit bars, TVs blaring over music, crooked pictures, old bathroom hardware for hanging soap dispensers still in plain sight, Mariachi band consuming too much space in a small bar, etc., etc.
While Tatiano's wasn't our cup of tea (we're not huge fans of Italian cuisine,) the place was always immaculate and inviting.
We ended up across the street at the local bar, and ran into three other couples that we saw inside Asaderos - all of whom pretty much shared my sentiments. We were all excited about having another local Mexican food place, but felt it was very disappointing...
Read moreMy wife and I love Mexican food . We've eaten at every single Mexican food place in Rockwall and Rowlett and all over Dallas and I have to say we were very disappointed. We walked in excited a hopeful because this place is very close to our home and we were excited when we heard a new restaurant was opening within walking distance. . The restaurant looks completely different from what it used to look like it's now all black and grey with poor lighting. The wait staff we had were very nice and took our order very quickly which is the only nice thing I can say about this experience. We started off with chips and salsa the salsa was not good at all.. We also ordered their top shelf margaritas called the "Cadillac" which was very disappointing to both of us. it was more like a Toyota without engine. It tasted like they used Fanta mixed with lime and a touch of tequila. The drink showed up with very little ice in the drinks which normally wouldn't be a bad thing if the drinks were good they were not. I ordered the beef enchiladas and my wife ordered a enchilada with a taco. When the order arrived the enchiladas looked to be hollowed out with some sort of chili red sauce over the top and the whole plate was drenched with queso. I understand your location is named after a Mexican cheese but boy this is too much, the flavor of the cheese is very rich and the chili I have no idea what that is. It's not good. It's like they poured a couple cheese on both of our plates to hide everything else. Like I said we love Mexican food and we so wanted this to be good but this is the first time we've ever tasted our food and our drinks and just left it sitting at the table because it was so bad. I really don't like to give bad reviews and I so wanted this to work out but all I can say is no. When we went to check out they asked us how our meal was and I was just totally honest with them and explained to them that the food and the Margaritas were not good at all.amd it's the first time we have ever left a Mexican restaurant with all the food and drinks unfinished. If this place wants to survive it really needs to reassess the food and the drinks. I would hire professional chef and a...
Read moreWe went in hoping to get dinner, but ended up leaving after an appetizer. Their staff was confused about where to seat us somehow, and had us kind of standing awkwardly in the largely empty dining room while they looked for a clean booth. The initial one we were offered was next to some other people, but the waitress said it was “too far”. She apparently wanted us closer to the kitchen. Both available booths were dirty so she tried to convince us to have a table instead (we had already been asked and said we wanted a booth). When we asked for the booth she wiped one down for us. She was very nice overall, but the whole experience was disappointing. We had the chorizo spinach queso, without chorizo, and it was bad… pretty much melted velveta with a can of spinach dumped into it. Not even stirred in well, there was just a huge center of canned spinach. The salsa tasted like Pace salsa, and many of the chips were stale, prompting us to wonder if they were being recycled or something. On top of this, it took quite a while for the chips and salsa to get to us, which is weird for a Tex-Mex restaurant that is largely empty. They didn’t bring us plates, straws, silverware or (most shockingly) napkins, even after they brought the queso. Multiple interactions with the waitress, and not once did she offer us napkins or anything else. Between the queso, the service, and the lack of meatless options, we just decided to leave.
Really wanted to like this place since it’s close to home and a new business, but they really need to step...
