I was really looking forward in trying this place since itâs only 5 minutes from my house. I went there yesterday with my two teenagers to order food to bring home for dinner. I was barely greeted with a hello from the woman behind the counter and itâs not like it was busy. I even told her that this was our first time there in case she saw that we were taking our time trying to figure out what we wanted to order and asking questions about the menu. We placed our order which was 2 burgers with an order of fries. Then I realized that I forgot to include my husbandâs BLT so I had to place a second order. When his order came I opened the bag and saw that they didnât put any chips in there. Right on their wall menu it says that all burgers and sandwiches come with chips. I politely asked the woman at the counter if we should be getting chips with the BLT and she doesnât say anything but grabs the chips and throws them in the bag. She seemed annoyed that I asked for chips? Well thankfully I had the receipt texted to me bc when we got home it turned out that my husband didnât get a BLT but got a grilled cheese with bacon and tomato? I checked my receipt and it clearly says BLT but then there was an extra charge of $1.25 for cheese? I never ordered a BLT with cheese? So I called and the woman answered and was talking to then cook about our order and said they can make us a BLT if thatâs what we want. Well yes that is what we ordered in the first place but Iâm not going out of my way to leave my house during dinner time and be inconvenienced like that so I asked if she could just cancel my credit card transaction and she said she canât and that I have to come in person to get a refund? I work on the same merchant pads that they have and refunding an order on the same day is very easy to do. Then she said she doesnât know how and will have to ask her manager and call me back. I said fine. A few minutes later she called back and said my card was refunded but what a big headache and hassle. I read on an older review that another Mom complained on how rude this women was to her. Roccoâs really needs to address this bc I donât care how good your food is, people wonât go back when there is poor customer service. There are plenty of other places out there that treat there customers very well and that is a big part on what makes me...

My wife and I, both foodies and restaurant critics, often like to disguise ourselves as quiet regular people, recently visited Rocco's Burgers, Dogs, and Fries in Kenvil, NJ, hoping for a casual bite before they closed for the night. From the outside, it looked like a cozy little hole-in-the-wall with âFreshâ signs prominently displayedâthough, honestly, when a place has to advertise freshness that much, it tends to raise some skepticism.
Walking in, our hopes took a dip. The tables were messy, and ours still had a sticky film from the previous diners. When we entered, I had to ask if we should seat ourselves. The reply was a "sure"... We sat down and we hear a loud âDo you guys know what you want?â from the register, despite not having menus yet. Eventually, we received menus, but the service felt indifferentâno drink inquiries or guidance.
We ordered a double bacon cheeseburger, fries with their âin-houseâ gravy and mozzarella, and lemon chicken wings. After a 15-minute wait, the food arrived, and unfortunately, it was mediocre at best.
The burger was overly salty and tasted like frozen beef. Oddly, we werenât asked how we wanted it cooked -a red flag, or if weâd like topping . The fries were clearly frozen and possibly refried, with a slimy gravy that didn't sit well on the palate. The mozzarella on top wasn't fully melted, with cold bits throughout. As for the lemon chicken wings, they tasted alright but had the unmistakable texture of frozen wingsâdisappointing given the emphasis on freshness.
Adding to the discomfort, the waiter started cleaning around us, creating noise which in settings like this, typically means our time has run out here. This lack of courtesy left a sour impression.
Overall Verdict:
Service: âď¸ (1 star) - Unwelcoming, inattentive, and made us feel rushed.
Food: âď¸âď¸ (2 stars) - Decent taste but far from fresh and quality was lacking.
Sadly, Rocco's didnât live up to its âfreshâ promises. I canât recommend it based on this experience. Maybe we'll come back for another review later on. We like to give second chances...
Read moreHad the chance to stop in to Rocco's in Kenvil, NJ after a few people tipped me off to it being a really solid spot. Decided to grab a deep fried Thumann's dog that they call a splitter (or a ripper if you're into NJ lingo) with chili and cheese, some fresh cut fries (fried in peanut oil), and a bacon cheeseburger. The server at the counter was a very nice and helpful guy. I enjoyed the surroundings, kind of like an old school diner feel to it with booths and a counter with stools.
The hot dog was really solid. This was one of the better chili's that I've had, especially this far west in Northern NJ. They used cheese sauce which I personally prefer for a chili cheese dog. I know its lower quality than using shredded cheddar or something but it's just nostalgic to me and makes me think of some great chili cheese dogs from my youth. It's tough to beat a deep fried Thumann's dog too, but in this case it was fried in peanut oil which I personally feel gives it an even better flavor. I would for sure order this dog anytime I'm at Rocco's.
The fries were excellent. When a fresh cut fry is done well, it's just something of beauty. I have had them so many times from places where you could tell they didn't do a second cook so they aren't quite the proper "doneness" or they soaked them too long/not enough. These were cooked properly and seasoned well. They also didn't have as much grease to them as a lot of other fresh cut fries I've had at other places.
The Bacon cheeseburger was also delicious. You can tell they use a high quality beef and the bacon was also cooked to my liking. I added lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo, and ketchup. This was one of the better burgers I've had in quite some time. If I could only choose one when returning, I would have a really hard time deciding between the dog and the burger. Great food at an affordable price with enjoyable customer service.
It goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway) that Rocco's in Kenvil -...
