Made my first visit to Lost Planet a couple weeks back. A friend and I stopped for some drinks and a bite to eat. It was a Wednesday night, so it wasn't overly busy - but was busier than I had expected for a Wednesday night. They also had trivia going on that night, which was a fun time. I'll highlight my experience below.
Location/Environment: Parking was easy with the new parking lot next to the location. The decor and style of the redesigned firehouse was a neat homage to Royersford that I enjoyed checking out. We chose to sit at one of the center high tops for two - and quickly realized that the tables were way too small if you're planning to have food too. Between dinner and drinks, and an app - all while playing trivia, I was running out space.
Food: We got the roasted hummus as an appetizer - and I will say it blew me away. I'm not a big hummus person - but this had great taste and was served with pita bread and veggies and just worked well. I had the pub melt - which was okay, but didn't live up to what I had hoped for and had an odd taste and was very messy. My friend had the chicken fingers (app) and said they were really good.
Drinks: I was glad to see that they had a selection of beverages beyond beer. I did decide to try their beers - but was disappointed to find that the two that I had planned to try were sold out. I opted to try their stout, which was good - but didn't seem like anything special. I also tried the Twilight Delight - a nitro, iced coffee like beverage as a sort of dessert - and it was pretty good!
Service: Service was honestly a bit slow - but it clearly due to not having enough staffing - which I'm generally pretty mindful and empathetic to with restaurants these days. Our server did her best and seemed to be the only server in the whole restaurant - she did well for the workload that she was working with - which as mentioned above, was pretty busy for a Wednesday night. I did like that they had trivia - was a nice surprise to the night and was fun - although it was crazy hard!
Overall - I thought the spot was great overall! They had a lot of positives (food, location, etc) but also seem to have some early challenges (namely availability of menu items and adequate staffing) - and I'm sure they will continue to work through those. I will definitely be going back and I hope to see...
Read moreA great place to relax and have a beer and a burger or, as in my case a beer and a charcuterie.
Their Space Walk Hazy IPA was very good and went well with my food.
Often when ordering charcuterie one gets a skimpy board with a few slices of meat and cheese and a large check. LPBC's charcuterie at $18 is generous and more than adequate as a meal for one or a nice appetizer to share with others. One unusual turn to this dish is that rather a board of distinct meat slices laid out in columns, LPBC chops all the meats and mounds them together in the center of the board resulting in an explosion of flavor with each bite. The inclusion of dried cranberries (I think that's what they were) make a nice contrast to the meats and cheeses.
My serving included only two, thinly sliced and lightly toasted baguette so I asked for some more and they gladly complied. A good bread is a crucial part of a great charcuterie. This is ingredient was, at its best, mediocre and LPBC should invest in...
Read moreI’m giving Lost Planet strong 3.5 review. We’ve waited so long for the opening and incredibly happy that everyone seems to enjoy it! A few tweaks will make it more memorable when Royersford inevitably gets more restaurants with the new construction. We want these guys to stay. Keep it coming - delicious beer, a nod to local history, friendly staff, clean space, late 80s early 90s music. Things to work on - consistent temperature of food (everything was cool if not slightly warm, a little unappetizing for a steak sandwich), ingredients/portions to match prices. Will there be a rotating menu or specials? That would be really fun to see what wild creation the kitchen has cooked up once a month. While recommending, I don’t want the first thing I say to be “it’s really cool inside.” We need a knockout beer or menu item that people can’t stop...
