When my husband and I started dating, the first piece of jewelry he bought me was from Calhoun Jewelers, a stunning sapphire and diamond ring. Over the years we dated, when he wanted a special gift, he would go to Cathy and give her his budget and thoughts and she always found the perfect gift. When he was finally ready to propose [after of 7 years of dating and a year of “penalty time”], he met with Cathy and they looked at my Pinterest wishlist, budget and timeline and she made it happen. She was the only person who knew he was going to propose and his plan. We were on a vacation to pick up a car in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and chose a museum delivery. This was a special experience and there was a live camera feed while you were picking up your car and being driven out of the museum. He told the team there his plans to propose and they also brought in their video guy to film everything. Right before he was driven out of the museum in his new car, they were taking photos of us and our host said that penalty time was over. I was confused and turned to my boyfriend and he was on one knee, trying to get something out of his back pocket [he did not factor in his pants tightening up when he knelt]. He pulled out a beautiful ring box that LIT up and had the most stunning diamond ring I had ever seen! I was in shock!! Over the years of being a customer, Cathy got to know me and made notes on my likes and helped my husband select a perfect engagement ring. It is always a pleasure to visit the store as she always has beautiful and unique jewelry and she and her team will work with you. Her estate jewelry is...
Read moreI had only had minor things done here and I took a chance asking to work with my engagement ring. Back story: 5 years into my marriage my diamond literally fell out of my setting. When we contacted the chain store my husband purchased the ring from, they told us that this has been an issue with this particular ring and to have them fix it. I just never wore my ring again. I never trusted it would stay in. Fast forward....17 Years married, I asked my hubby if we could talk to the jeweler about my ring. RICHARD C. helped us at CALHOUN"S and when I say he was a BIG help...that is an understatement. He would email me pictures of settings, and ideas,.....until I decided the best idea (Richards) was to take my engagement ring and just drop my diamond into a bezel setting. My diamond, the original ring....just had it lowered into a secure setting. I was a nervous nelly waiting for the call to come in and pick it up. To my surprise, it is beyond beautiful!! I wish I had done this YEARS ago!!!!! I picked it up the day the world shut down, and I have to say....I can't stop looking at my ring, it makes me soooo happy to have my set and I don't fear it will ever become loose. (even with all the hand washing I am doing) All of the employees, and owner....laughed at me when I hugged RICHARD!! I loved it sooo much, I totally made a scene at the store. THANK YOU RICHARD!!! I am...
Read moreI had a negative customer service experience at Calhoun. I was immediately and impolitely turned away from Calhoun Jewelers after requesting an appraisal; the one person who was capable of performing appraisals was busy for another six weeks.
In a small town and in a small store like this, I understand if there's one person on staff who performs appraisals. What made my experience negative is that any of the three idle employees could have offered to look at what I wanted appraised and provided an informal appraisal, or offered any remedial step in the appraisal process until their one person was no longer busy, or thought of anything else that would have addressed the reason for my visit.
Instead, I was promptly turned away, the staff too busy talking to each other with no one else in the showroom. I left Calhoun feeling snap judged and frustrated that I was quickly determined not worthy of Calhoun's business.
There are too many other friendly jewelers in the area to accept Calhoun's employee's behavior. I will...
